H.R. 2713 would amend title II of the Social Security Act to authorize waivers by the Commissioner of Social Security of the 5-month waiting period for entitlement to benefits based on disability in cases in which the Commissioner determines that such waiting period would cause undue hardship to terminally ill beneficiaries, and to provide for a study by the Commissioner regarding possible improvements in disability claims processing.

March 16, 2008, 10:27pm (report abuse)Go figure! The people who were hoping this bill would pass, are probably now deceased. It is ashame the people we elect do not appear to work for us!

December 30, 2008, 4:20pm (report abuse)My husband died exactly when the 5 month period was over....something is not right with this 5 month wait...we're talking pretty big bucks to someone not working. Shame on the government. I understand there is fraud, but faking a terminal illness...not very easy, especially after you're dead.
