H.R. 1661 would amend the Law Enforcement Pay Equity Act of 2000 to permit certain annuitants of the retirement programs of the United States Park Police and United States Secret Service Uniformed Division to receive the adjustments in pension benefits to which such annuitants would otherwise be entitled as a result of the conversion of members of the United States Park Police and United States Secret Service Uniformed Division to a new salary schedule under the amendments made by such Act.

July 11, 2008, 6:27pm (report abuse)This Bill is a direct adjustment of the past retirement system, in that Congress gave their WORD, as a condition of employment, all future Pay Acts would include the retirees in equaliztion for pay. Failure of Congress to address this properly and expeditously is an outright RENEGE on the part of Congress for which they need to be held due accounting of.

August 27, 2008, 11:45am (report abuse)After 28+ years with the US Secret Service/Uniformed Division, and working long and many overtime hours, we its members were promised by US law an "equalization clause" enacted by Congress in 1923, that we the members would recieve what the active members recieve when we retired. In 2001, the US Secret Service back doored its UD members and had them cut out of the pay raise that we waited for for 10 years. 10 years without a across the board pay raise and our parent organization cut us out. I thought that we were all one family. It seems that this was only true when it came to hard work, overtime and the jobs that special agents didnt want to do. The Director of the USSS seems to want to take more care of his special agents that the first line personel. Maybe Congress should see what a agents retirement is compared to a Officers retirement. Time to do something. Vote yes and send this site to your friends and family of hard working police officers.

August 27, 2008, 12:39pm (report abuse)I served with some of these men and women from the two departments being considered under the above bill. With respect to their service to their country and protecting the citizens of the District of Columbia, some of their government carrers started in the jungles of Vietnam and ended in the streets of Washington DC spanning more than 30 years.
Your own families were made safe when visiting the District by these same dedicated professionals and patriots who wore their departments uniform.

The dedicated professionals that served their country and the District of Columbia by being members of the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division deserve this. We put in long and hard hours to keep our protectees safe and we did it with pride. We deserve by law to be paid for our hard work.

August 28, 2008, 8:16am (report abuse)The passage of this bill will fix a flaw in a previous bill and restore the retirement benefits of a few dedicated public servants that did nothing but risk their lives on a daily basis to keep the President and his family alive and the streets of Washington DC safe.

August 28, 2008, 9:49am (report abuse)How would any Congress person or Senate person like to come up for retirement thinking that they will recieve a big retirement and somebody tells them they only get half of what they worked for, or maybe they should live on what Social Security would gives them. If my retirement dont get improved Ill be on food stamps and welfare both. I wonder how the hill would feel if the general public voted on who got what amount at retirement, maybe the hill would do a lot better job at what they were elected for.

August 29, 2008, 5:40pm (report abuse)The Secret Service Uniformed Divison has a long and proud history beginning with the creation of the White House Police in 1921. Since that time, this organization has grown in size and in it's capabilities. We do not have direct bargaining ability, and our salaries and benefits are set by Congress. Over time, our members have enjoyed the benefits of pay raises which are passed on to our retired members. Legislation to provide pay raises to our active duty officers in 2001 was passed, however retirees were for the first time excluded. This legislation will correct this inequality and restore these raises to this group of retired police officers.

August 30, 2008, 4:11pm (report abuse)I and a great many other law enforcement personnel, retired from the US Secret Service Uniformed Division and the US Park Police, are being adversely affected by Congress' failure to act and pass this bill for the last 7 years. Legislation to provide pay raises to our active duty officers in 2001 was passed, however retirees were for the first time excluded. This legislation will correct this inequality and restore these raises to this group of retired police officers. The passage of this bill is very important and must be addressed by the Congress immediatley.

August 31, 2008, 10:17pm (report abuse)I spent 20 years with the US Secret Service Uniformed Division, all that time we were told once we retired our retirement would be based on current employees pay. That all changed in 2001 when we were excluded from raise at the request of the Secret Service. This bill will correct this and restore what the government promised for 20 years.

September 9, 2008, 8:31pm (report abuse)The only time retirees covered by this bill get a pension increase is when their active duty counterparts get a raise. Unlike all other fed retirees, we do NOT get automatic annual COLA increases. In 2001, active duty members got an increase in salary that was denied retirees. Congress broke its promise.

September 11, 2008, 1:27pm (report abuse)Many good men and women worked a long and faithful career and then retired from the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division and U.S. Park Police feeling secure that as in the past, they would receive an increase in their pension whenever their active counterparts received a salary increase. This ended in 2001 when for the first time ever retirees were exclude from a pay increase that their active counterparts received. Please do what is fare and just and support HR-1661 so this important benefit can be resored. There are only 973 retirees that this affects and the numbers will only go down through the increase in the mortality rate.

For many retirees, their annuity is their only source of income. We have rendered good and faithful service in the protection of our country. The passage of this bill is very important and must be addressed by the Congress.

September 14, 2008, 8:52pm (report abuse)This bill will restore a benifit that retired members of the US Secret Service Uniformed Div. and US Park Police were denied in July 2001. They have been trying to get this benifit restored ever since.
The only way these retirees receive an adjustment in their pensions is when their active counterparts receive an increase in salary.(Unlike all other federal retirees, they do not get automatic yearly increases based on the cost of living.) In 2001, active members were transferred to a new pay chart, which included an increase in salary. For the first time ever, a section of the law that granted a raise to active members excluded retirees from receiving an increase in their pensions.
These police officers rendered good and faithful service in the protection of their country, with the expectation that the government would live up to its obligations when they retired. For
many retirees, their annunity is their only source of income.

They have been trying to get this benifit restored ever since. My Brother-In-Law was a member of the USSS/UD for 25 years and I was proud of his service. He served his country and the DC community with pride and honor. These people deserve what is over due to them. So this bill should be passed without any hesitation.

November 26, 2008, 9:27am (report abuse)Members of the US Secret Service Uniformed Division and Park Police had retirement benefits reduced by legislation enacted in 2000. This legislation conflicted with retirement benefits received by these Officers since the 1930's, and consequently reduced retirees monthly income. The dedicated men and women of these departments served with many sacrifices only to be denined benefits they worked towards. Please pass this legislation to right the wrong that was created by the government. Congress would not reduce their retirement salaries, and should not have reduced mine and other retirees.
