I feel that Little shell Chippewa Indians Of Montana should be granted federal recognition. My husband and 3 children are members of this tribe. We live in Spokane,Wa and in order for them to be eligible for services at the American Indian Center there they have to be members of a federally recognized tribe which to me seems sad, they are native american but because their tribe is only state recognized and not federally recognized we can not be helped until they gain federal recognition. They are proud of their nationality and deserve to be treated the same as other Native American tribes. Isn't 110+ years a long enough wait?

How long will this injustice be prolonged? Recognition is more than a hundred years overdue. This bill does not even begin to make up for mistreatment of this tribe by the U. S. Goverment but it is a important step in the right direction. I am not Indian. I have nothing to gain myself but the satisfaction of seeing justice done. The B.I.A. is not able to perform their duty in this matter. Congress needs to act as it has in similar cases.....soon.

This is an important step to get help to the many members of the Little Shell Tribe who have lived in near poverty conditions with no recourse. I have seen a lot of members of my family die who worked hard to get recognition for our tribe. Don't let the rest of the people who have worked on this die before they see the fruits of their labor.

My fiancee is a member of this proud tribe. My brother in law designed the proud flag of these people and is a member. His brother lived on Hill 57 and remembers every day what it was like. Due to the swindling of Chief Little Shell by his own blood these people have endured horrors such as Hill 57 and beyond to get to where they are today, some have succeeded in a world where they fit in neither white nor red. A lot of these people are poor, landless, unable to have the same educational, medical, & benefits The Turtle Mountain People now enjoy. . We live on the Flathead Reservation in Mt. and now, after 48 years, My woman has finally gotten to APPLY for IHS medical, etc. Whether she gets it or not, who can say.. Give the Little Shell the recognition they deserve. They have survived far more than some 10 member tribes who have seem to have been given tribal sovereinty for what would appear to be no reason at all. This fight would make the ancestors proud and they are watching.

It's a very sad day in American History when Native American Indians have fewer rights than illegal aliens. These PEOPLE arn't looking for a handout but simply to be recognized. This mistreatment is a disgrace.
