Any amendment to the Constitution should be carefully thought out. This one is not. It strips the individual States of their right under the Constitution to choose the President and Vice President that best represents them. If this amendment ever goes anywhere they should add another Section to the amendment.
Section 7. Because States no longer matter, "The United States of America" shall be renamed "The Peoples Republic of America".

THat honestly makes no sense. It actually shows a better view of what tthe people actually want, and the electoral college alienates the small states anyways.

I agree. The whole idea of creating America's Democracy was to represent the people, not the States' government! Have you ever heard the phrase: "We the People.."?
S. Kincaid
The Electoral College is a mostly outdated instrument of democracy. In the days when getting news even of declarations of war or peace across the country took months, the electoral college was necessary for the president and vice-president to take office quickly. Now, however, it is not necessary for that purpose, with information capable of traveling the world in just a few seconds. Also, the people are more educated today, and candidates can reach the voters instantly. Thus, many of the Electoral College’s purposes are wiped away in the modern era.
The states have never been guaranteed any right whatsoever to elect a president or vice-president; that right is relegated to the people exclusively. But obviously states do matter; otherwise we would not have a Congress, and the entire nation would be affected by legislation, rather than the states being able to decide. And 'People's Republic' is traditionally a communist nomenclature, whereas this would give us more democracy.

It is true that the little states don't get equal representation at the Electoral College because it is all based on population. I think it just might be a good idea, but I am hesistant. This should be dealt with carefully.

Micheal I strongly disagree with you. You need to think this out. This bill definately needs to be passed becausethe electoral college is corrupt. How do you win the popular vote but lose the election? A democracy means by the people and it is for the people not for the states. Who lives in the states? the people and we should matter!
Josh
"The Peoples Republic of America" has a nice ring to it. You know, it is supposed to be about the people. I would seem a bit awkward calling America the symbol of Democracy and we can't even directly vote for our leader.
