Mad in Montana
May 8, 2006, 3:01pm (report abuse)Why is Small Business barred from using the same federal rules (under ERISA) that Unions and Big Business use to pool accross state lines?
They have been using it for years. And the market seems to dictate that they do offer many of the mandates by the states.
And small business is closer to their employees...in fact...many are family members.
The house passed a version 8 times...the president said he would sign it. Why can't the Senate take action?

May 11, 2006, 7:21pm (report abuse)I'll tell you why. It is the same old bull#$^ partisan politics. Dems will not give Bush a victory in health care with so many seats up for grabs. (not saying Republicans don't do the same). We the people have got to demand more from out leaders than these partisan power plays

August 2, 2006, 11:53am (report abuse)This bill sounds great on the surface - what is not apparent about it is it allows insurers to eliminate coverage for cancer screenings (incl. colonoscopy, skin cancer, mammogram, etc.), diabetes, immunizations, well-baby care and a host of other vital procedures. THAT is where the "cost savings" for small businesses lies. And, no state laws can ovveride those provisions to protect consumers.
