H.R. 4844, The Federal Election Integrity Act of 2006 (5 comments ↓)
- This item is from the 109th Congress (2005-2006) and is no longer current. Comments, voting, and wiki editing have been disabled, and the cost/savings estimate has been frozen.
H.R. 4844 would amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to require all voters in federal elections to display a valid and current photo identification card issued by a government agency. The requirement would begin with the November 2008 federal election. The legislation would require the photo identification cards to document U.S. citizenship by the 2010 federal election. The legislation would require states to provide photo identification cards to all eligible voters who cannot pay for them, and it would authorize appropriations for the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to reimburse states for those costs.

September 23, 2006, 10:13am (report abuse)I think it is a great idea. We are already required to produce 2 forms of ID when we start a new job. This only requires one. And I don't want my vote cancelled out by someone voting fraudulently.

October 3, 2006, 9:15am (report abuse)This bill would not reduce fraudulent voting. What it would do is make it more diffecult for seniors and other legitamate voters to vote. The best way to reduce fraudulent voting is to pass a bill which would result in a paper trail including paper reciepts for the votes you cast, opening computer softwar to inspection by election officials, and force recounts when certain red flags occur, including results vastly different from exit polls or machines which counted more votes than there are voters in a district.

November 15, 2006, 1:23pm (report abuse)I don't think this bill would do anything more then help create a surveillance State. We have too much of that already.
