You don't get taxed on your social security benefits, unless your income is over $ $25,000 for Single, Head of Household or Qualified Widow/widower, and $32,000. for Married filing Jointly. For those you who's social security is taxed just remember according to our government you are wealthy. The reason for taxing social security benefits was to tax the wealthy. I wonder if any one in Washington DC has had to live on $32,000 a year. Just remember this when you hear the people in Washington talk about taxing only the wealthy....

Tammy,

What you fail to understand is that the money taken out up front is income tax withholding. When you file at the end of the year that is part of the money you have already paid in. Certainly you have to report the bonus but you are not taxed twice. It would behoove you to get a better understanding of things before you start spouting inane remarks....

Ronnie,

Being taxed on things twice is nothing new. Ask military people who have reenlisted. Unless they've changed it, when you get a reenlistment bonus, you automatically have 28% federal and 4% state taken out. Then, come tax time, you have to claim the bonus AGAIN on your taxes, so you pay twice on that reenlistment bonus....
