snwmzr724: I used to live in NJ and it took almost a year to get a Permit to Carry in 1982 with a job need. I was harassed in security uniform when carrying on the job constantly. I can't speak for other states, but I know even if it passes any cop in NJ would drag you out of the car at gunpoint, put the boot to your head and do everything in his power to prove your permit was not valid! Trust me on this. They even refused to accept HR 218 LE carry at first. NJ cops are BAD! I live in Vermont now Hehehe!...

I can't wait, I am an FFL and handgun license holder in PA and NY but was turned down in the United Republic of New Jersey for the same. I just want to give the finger to NJ as I drive through with my glock 27 rigth next to me....

Without this legislation, a person traveling through various states is violating laws of which we are not aware of and not practical to comply with...

Freeman, All this says that if you have a permit in one state, another state will (must) honor it nothing more nothing less. It is not tied to a drivers license, that was just a point Freedom made. I have my permit in Oregon and a valid on for Utah, that way I can carry in 33 different states. This would make things easier for LEO's when doing a check, and less of a hassle for permit owners. If you look at the facts 80% of crimes are by gang members (FBI stat)and the police only show up after the crime, I will and must be able to defend myself and family. I have been through the background check. So I say Good luck get this bill passed....

I agree with GoodTex 100%. It is our US second amendment right, states should not have the authority to take that away if you are a law abiding citizen. No states do that with the first amendment rights. That would be like Illinois saying you do not have freedom of speech, or religion. How dumb would it be if you were not allowed to go to church in Illinois but you could in Indiana?...

Detailed Summary

National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009 - Amends the federal criminal code to establish a national standard for the carrying of concealed firearms (other than a machinegun or destructive device) by non-residents. Authorizes a person who has a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state and who is not prohibited from carrying a firearm under federal law to carry a concealed firearm in another state in accordance with the restrictions of that state or as specified under this Act.

The Constitution gives us the right to bear firearms. If you are a citizen of the US, the right to carry should cover all territories governed by the US Constitution. Any deviance from that is a violation of the rights of the citizens. All this nit-picking is erroding our Constitution....

Personally, I'd like to see all of the state provisions thrown out and just have the bill legalize national reciprocity in all jurisdictions. You know the games they'll play if the wording isn't changed. They'll try the same stuff they're doing now to get around the Heller decision....

While thinking about this some more, you have drivers license which is valid in any other state, so why should'nt your carry permit be valid...

While I am totally for concealed carry permits. I am torn on this one. On one had I believe that you have a right to carry regardless. On the other hand I think that this is the federal government once again trampling on states rights. Overall I think I would support it....
