Some people blow my mind...
1. Increasing taxes on the rich is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. (Try reading it.)
2. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor is SOCIALIST.
3. Letting American's decide what to do with their own hard-earned money is LIBERTY.
If government would get their hands out of our pocketbooks & out of our lives then we would come together & take care of ALL PEOPLE. THAT would make us a more peaceful nation & improve foreign relations. How much of that $.04 will be used to fund the bureaucracy needed to sort out who gets what on a global scale? Or, if they would let me keep (all of) my money, I could choose to donate through private charities who keep public records & can prove that 95% of my money will go directly to help those in need. Don't underestimate those of us who are opposed to this horrible bill. It's not that we don't want to help others, it's just that we don't want the government controlling our lives. You can always move to China if you'd like....

Dennis,
Jesus also wants us to be good stewards of our money. That would include not spending money we don't have. Have you checked the national debt clock lately? WE DON'T HAVE IT!! So, who would we have to borrow money from that we must pay back with exhorbitant interest? I guess we could always have the FED print more money but the value of our dollar would drop even more, leaving us with less to give to charity and less to take care of ourselves, resulting in us needing more from our government who will have to borrow from other countries to take care of us or print more which would make us even poorer...OR, they could give us ALL of our money and we can portion it according to our own consciences. There's an idea!...

I agree this bill does no good for the impoverished. Obama does not put this country first as a Senator nor Presidential hopeful.

The government corruption within these poor countries needs to be corrected so that the people can enjoy a healthy productive nation. Pouring money into it does nothing if it is stolen by thier own govts.

reminds me of this one (America)

Our origninal founding fathers had it right when they created a free republic. Too bad it went sour by controlling banksters, lawyers, politicians, illuminatti, etc.

But hope is not lost. Instead of contacting your congressmen on this bill, contact the supreme court and ask why the hold up on NESARA (google it or check the main site nesara.us)

This will do more for global poverty than anything else if you understand Americans are probably the most generous people on earth (that is when the choice to give is their own choice instead of by tax transfer or wealth distribution)

This bill will NOT solve the problem of global poverty. Warlords and corrupt governments prevent aid from getting to those who need it. If the UN (and yes they would oversee it distribution, don't kid yourself otherwise) where serious about aid for countries in need they should look at their own house for these funds rather than looking for a hand out from the US. Sorry wealth redistribution is not the answer....

Amanda, it's nice that you want to help the poor in other countries, but please do it on your own dime rather than asking your representatives in government to steal my money to pay for what you want. That's socialism--the idea that government (or "others") knows better how to spend my money than I do. Last I checked, we're supposed to be a republic.

I have a deal for you. You don't have your representatives steal my money to pay for your pet projects and I won't have my representatives steal your money to pay for mine. :-)...

Perhaps we could keep the UN out of our business and take care of the sick and needy in OUR country, seems everyone forgets the Americans living in poverty. Also-in this bill they have slipped in this "The U.S. would be required to surrender some of its sovereignty over foreign aid by putting it under UN control. The bill would force the U.S. to sign onto the U.N.'s Millennium Declaration, which would commit us not only to "banning small arms and light weapons" but also to adhere to the International Criminal Court Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol." (cited from http://www.fourwinds10.com/siterun_data/government/united_nations/news.php?q=1210170368 )...

These comments are depressing: so much hate. So many unexamined claims. All this bill says is that we should make a plan to deal with global poverty. The numbers people are quoting ($845 bn, .7 GNP) are made-up scare tactics. Go to the LOC site and read the bill yourself.

Does Jesus say to help the poor ONLY if they were born under your flag? Where is your humanity?

The above comments are for THIS country.

Now, how about the US taking care of all other nations where there is blight? Who in the hell does Osama Bama think he is??? Furthermore, who in the hell does all the absolutely stupid people who are supporting him think "THEY" are? Socialists want to give this country away, and they aren't trying to hide it either!!! How can any rational person back someone who is going to do everything in his presidential power to systematically dismantle our constitution rights, right before their very eyes?
The only way we will spread prosperity throughout the world is through technology, education and the kind of opportunity that can only come by getting government out of the way and letting people accumulate, keep and invest what they earn. No government program can ever achieve this by definition. My life does not belong to the government. No part of it or the fruits of it like my earnings belong to the State. That was the promise of America. It is a great pity that we have been made to forget it....

"Guns, Germs, and Steel" does a great job of showing that it takes blood/sweat/tears AND a lot of help from somewhere in order to rise from bare existence.

Not to belittle your situation Ronald, but I think you have more than you realize, that puts you 'way ahead of at least 3 billion people. You have electricity. You can read and write. You have time to consider and discuss issues at hand. You live in a free country with a stable currency. To go out on a limb a little, you likely have a car. You have good roads to drive it on. You have access to clean drinking water. You don't get malaria over and over.

If we wait until we're all set before giving anything, God WON'T have mercy on our souls. 0.7% is a small amount for us, and huge for the rest of the world....

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

This bill is not about the UN or about arms. It is about keeping the promise that we have freely and *repeatedly* made *beginning in 1970* (see http://www.globalissues.org/TradeRelated/Debt/USAid.asp) as a sovereign nation to help those dramatically less fortunate than us to become self-sustaining.

The United States is blessed with natural resources and historic good fortune beyond any before us. Of any nation on earth, we are by far the most able to give as we have been given to. Shamefully, although we should be the most generous, we are the most stingy when measured against our peers.

We have a historic and concrete opportunity to lift billions of people out of a brief and miserable existence. We spent up to 2% of GNP during the wildly successful Marshall Plan. The least we can do is give $0.01/person now to help spring the trap....

I dont know where the 4 cents comes in, I have seen estamates stating to cover this cost would require .35 to $1.00 increase per gallon of gas. Also further into this bill you will find that it goes beyond giving money away, it would also strike at the 2nd amendment.
"In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that (U.N.) declaration commits nations to banning 'small arms and light weapons' and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention of Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Convention of the Rights of the Child," he said.

Those U.N. protocols would make U.S. law on issues ranging from the 2nd Amendment to energy usage and parental rights all subservient to United Nations whims....

They are all eliteists, it is the past 30 years of stupid laws made by lawyers put into office by people voting very stupidly. This bill by Obama is just one more step to enslave the American people. The UN should really be called "the nations united against America'. I'm sorry but in the 1930's Rockefeller had a plan to dumb down the population thru the school system and it has been very very successful. It does not matter if you are a demo or a rep you better start writing to your congressman and tell them hell no on Obama's bill or in a few years you will be under UN control with no rights at, remember, the Un is against everything America wants, they all HATE us....
