I have tried everything to get these people to stop. I purchased one of these: http://www.storm-whistles.com
They are advertised as the loudest whistle in the world. When the recording is finished, I press 1 to speak to a person. When I get them, they get an ear full....

S. 2096 would amend the Do-Not-Call Implementation Act to eliminate the automatic removal of telephone numbers registered on the Federal "do-not-call" registry.

Detailed Summary

Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 - Prohibits having a specific expiration period for numbers in the do-not-call registry of the Telemarketing Sales Rule.

Requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to reinstate the registration of any telephone number that was removed from the registry before enactment of this Act under an FTC rule or practice requiring the removal of a telephone number from the registry five years after its registration.

Authorizes the FTC to check telephone numbers listed on the do-not-call registry against national databases periodically and purge numbers that have been disconnected and reassigned.

Requires the FTC to report to Congress on FTC efforts taken after enactment of this Act to improve the accuracy of the registry.

I'm on the Do Not Call list, but my cell keeps getting text messages from telemarketers. Isn't that illegal? Can we go after them for fines???...

I'm tired of my elderly parents, although registered on the no-call list, are STILL getting calls from "Heather". Unfortunately they do not have caller id, so we have no idea where they are coming from. They have been on the do not call list for a long time. In fact I re-registered them today in hopes of eliminating this nusiance. Please find a way to shut them down or at least leave my folks alone. Two calls over the course of 2-3 days is 2 too many. Thank you!...

I do not understand what they have done. I thought this was to make permenant the "no call" listing of of my phone numbers so that I do not have to re register after five years. I would also like it to include text messages; faxes, emails addresses and NO POLITICAL CALLS EITHER.

Lost in the jargon,

I read the bill and don't see the downside from a consumer's point of view. Please, someone explain why this is not in my interests as a consumer. I got my first telemarketer call on my cell phone last week. I pay the bills on that phone. The caller ID on my cell phone will get the same heavy use as the one at home. The political calls are driving us batty and the government won't stop them....
