I am one of those people who would benefit from this law, and would make every possible effort to live the rest of my life being productive. It's time to stop labelling people and trying to keep them in a permanent underclass. We are all Americans and just want to be part of the whole American dream....

This is not a Republic. We have to change not only this Federal "Felon" laws but the entire system of Dictatorial Government.
To start with after we deal with H.R. 623 we have to push for removing this colonial British relic of calling a crime a "felony".
This ugly word must disappear and people judged only based on the crime they commit based on evidence and circumstances.
This Country is still backwards. In Europe, anyone can sell Beer or Wine except for a City Business License which can be easily obtained with no fingerprinting or background checks. Even Children can buy liquor or sell it.
Getting a job is not related to having a clean record and convictions do not disqualify people for other professions
and possess firearms. Even in England where the infamous word "felon" comes from has a changed Judicial System and no longer resembles the one much cherished by our people in Congress and State Houses....

To all interested person. Mr. Charles Benninghoff, founder of The Rehabilitation Project, is actively trying to impose passage of a law that would provide relief to federal convicted felons. With the Certificate of Rehabilitation (COR), convicted felons would not have to disclose their convictions to employers. He is scheduled to speak to legislators the week of 7/18/2008. Please visit his site at www.rehabilitated.org to find out more information and to participate in this fight if you or a family member has been affected by a federal criminal conviction. Our voices combined together with prayers are our only way of truly getting a second chance....

Less all act as if we believe once a person has paid his/her debt that we can move along. If your debt is not paid after you have served all of your time in jail or prison than why are you released?? I believe that once you are release that you debt is cleared and a person should be able to resume the life they had before the conviction automatically.....

It's time to fax members of the house subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. Go to govtrack.us and find out if you have one of the committee members in your state. Contact members of the committee even if they are not in your state - they owe you their attention and are supposed to be serving this country....

The only people who dont want something like this to help their neighbors are like the Pharisees in Jesus's time. They just want to present themselves like theyre better than everybody else. I have news for folks like that - nobody is perfect and just because you want to feel superior doesnt make you a good person anyway....

That's not quite true. Not everybody has to "own" each mistake they have ever made. For powerful and wealthy people of influence, like athletes and politicians, there are avenues for redemption - pre-trial adjudication, for example.
Also, very often, people are "railroaded" or in the wrong place at the wrong time, or even acting in self-defense, and these people certainly deserve another chance for a decent life.
For those who clearly do not deserve mercy, this law takes that into account. The person must pass muster with a judge and show tangible proof that they are law-abiding and worthy of a cleared record.
Really, why would anyone want to grind well-intentioned people into the dirt?...

Sorry bud -- this bill hasn't seen the light of day since it was introduced. You're thinking of the other bill that grants a whopping 160mil in funds to help transition felons into the community and the workplace. It's a joke. No one is going to hire someone with a felony record except to shovel excrement....

I don't know how long to wait. Sometimes I do feel like getting mad and blaming the USA or just giving up. this is too much punishment.
I served my country, but it has turned its back on me. I made a mistake almost 15 years ago, and didn't hurt anyone, but now I can't get a decent job. What was I doing trying to "defend" our country then? I cant even take care of my family now....

I am very excited that this bill has passed. For the crime that usually is a misdermenor for some was a felony for me.
I made a mistake, I paid restitution, I was unremarkable while on probation. To this day I still converse with my probation officer.
I have a Master's degree, but before this bill, I couldn't get a job in my field to save my life. With this bill being passed gives me hope and I feel like I was reborn. Thanks Rep Charles Rangel, you are and always be my hero....

We have to forgive our oppressors. We have to turn the other cheek. We have to show them how much we are deeply, deeply, deepyly sorry for our transgressions. Then, maybe, one day, they'll forgive us and let us back into society.

Heard that crap before? Well don't hold your breath. Why do you think they say 'a federal felony is forever'...

Yeah, i guess we haven't all paid a big enough price to truly reflect how damn sorry we are. We must pay more, and more, and more, and more, and keep paying, and paying, and paying.
