I too had an uncle who was missing for 15 years I know the look of a mother on her death bed just hoping to see her child for one last time before she leaves this world and i know what it looks like when she does not get that chance. I worked for this agency for 2 years and had to leave when the funding was gone but my coworkers worked on with compensation and without hope but they did it for the missing and the families of the missing. Launched in July 2007. NamUs is made up of two databases: (1) records of unidentified decedents (select "Unidentified Decedents”) and (2) missing persons reports (select “Missing Persons”). Currently, the unidentified decedents database is searchable and available for medical examiners and coroners to upload their cases. The search capability of the missing persons database is in development; the site currently provides resources on State clearinghouses, medical examiners and coroners, law enforcement, victim assistance resources, and legislation. In 2009, the two databases will be linked. It's been a real resource in raising awareness and supporting families of the missing. My friend, Lilly Aramburo vanished 6/1/07 from Miami, FL. As soon as I contacted NCMA, a volunteer case worker responded and worked really hard to get the case confirmed by the law enforcement agency. The agency ignored calls, emails, etc but the caseworker didn't give up. She contacted me immediately and explained the delay. I'm very grateful to NCMA for everything they do for the missing and their families. Sadly, most people don't realize the importance of the agency until a family member or loved one goes missing. Like Kym said, we can't afford to delay its funding.
