Please help pass this Bill, the name check delay has left us frustrated. our case has been pending on the name chack for over 3yrs. Not to mention the money (over $2000)that have been spent on extending the work permit and travel documnet for my husband. This is undue suffering and unfair for law abiding, tax paying individuals who just want to carryone with their lives with out this ever hanging sword on our head. Evryday i stop at the mailbox awaiting just one letter. This needs to be done....

Hi, I am a law abiding immigrant of US and living here from more than 10 years over here. Applied N-400 and stuck in Name Check for almost a year. Please pass the bill ASAP and provide relief to the law abiding residents....

Hi, we are lawful immigrant, staying in this county almost close to 10 years. for N-400 USCIS are still doing Name check. Did not you do the security check when I came to US. Why again, dont you trust the lawful immigrants and what is the reason that government is pushing for the non immigrant cases. Please trust us and pass this bill ASAP....

my husband is stuck in another country being harassed daily by the secret police. what is holding up his case? THE SECURITY CHECK. i am American citizen and this is like a dictatorship. no one can tell you anything...no one can do anything...it's mysterious......

I applied for the US citizenship in July 2003. I have passed my interview, US History and English language test on December, 10, 2003. Since that time, I have been waiting for an oath ceremony. I have been waiting the ceremony almost for over four years! And who knows how long would it take. In February, 2006 I have submitted a Freedom of Information Act request for any records the FBI might have on me. The bureau promptly replied that it has none. If FBI can inform me that they do not have anything against me, why can’t they inform about that immigration? I want to participate in political life in this country, I want to have right to vote! It's so humiliating waiting my name to be clear for four years. Please, pass this bill....

H.R. 3828 would reduce the backlog in processing requests made by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to the National Name Check Program of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Detailed Summary

Citizenship and Immigration Backlog Reduction Act - Directs the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to jointly provide to the appropriate congressional committees a plan for ensuring that within 18 months of the date of enactment of this Act the National Name Check Program will no longer have any requested name checks from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in backlog status (as defined by this Act).

States that beginning 18 months after the date of the enactment of this Act the Program is not authorized to have any file in backlog status.

Provides that after such date any name check request from USCIS held by the Program for longer than six months shall: (1) be referred to the Secretary who shall adjudicate interim benefits (unless there is reasonable cause to suspect that the applicant poses a threat to national security, otherwise poses a threat to the United States, or has broken U.S. immigration law); and (2) have the name check fee refunded.

Certainly, the government should take extraordinary efforts to ensure public safety, but at the same time NAME CHECK PROCESS should be redesigned not to punish the innocent people for the sake of security....

I know a lot of great people waiting their cases for years beause of dalayed FBI name chek, and all of them have limited freedom and abilities for life during this time (like buy own home, open business or change job position). Please passt his bill, it's very important....

Please pas this bill. I have been waiting for name check to clear for 2 years now; - that is 2 years of suspended animation, I can't sleep right anymore, tears,.. all these tears....and all they can say is "Name Check Pending"...
