I operated a small coal company during the 90's. We were barely a breakeven operation. It makes me sick that the government can illegally take money out of my business and not pay me back. I'm not a big coal company who can make up this later. I provided jobs for 50 employees for over 10 years and have nothing to show for it. It has been implied that I should have known that the tax was unconstitutional. When people pay their taxes, they always assume that the government could not tax them illegally. If we cannot assume this, then everyone needs to file a claim against the IRS every time they pay a tax just incase the tax is not constitutional....

I cannot understand why anyone would be opposed to a bill that refunds money that the government illegally took. People that are against this bill need to consider how they would feel if the government illegally taxed them. This is not about coal; this is about our government being held accountable...

This was not a tax. It was an unconstitutional taking of money from the coal companies that were struggling in the 80's and 90's. This government does not debate the fact that this was an unconstitutional taking. If this was oil companies that were illegally taxed, then I'm sure they would be compensated....
