I think that the people who think that us the veterans who are not 100 percent fit should not use the stores on the base are people who proably have never served this country and people who dont realize that we have sacrifized many things in our lives and i to cannot perform many jobs because of my injuries i would love to see those people who say no to us do their job whith a dissability i served this country my country and i know i have earned my freedom and the benefits that come with that....

I served in Operation Noble Eagle,Operation Enduring Freedom,Operation Iraqi Freedom,Katrina relief, and Operation Jump Start assisting the border patrol. I was a medic and I was proud to serve my country whenever she called. While on the Jump Start mission I sustained severe and permanent back injuries that resulted in me being "medically retired" with a rating of 70 percent, which ain't much. I thank God my woman hasn't lost her job YET...but Commissary privileges would really help stretch our checks. Bill, you and any other veteran who would deny legitimate service connected injured veterans a way to make these disability checks stretch a little further can go straight to Hell. I had 10 years of military service and was heading to paramedic school in the civilian sector. VA Voc-Rehab is going to recommend my GI Bill benefits be used as an unemployment insurance for me because of the complications with my injuries. If I hadn't gotten hurt,I'd have done 20....

According to the polls, 54% are against this legislation, yet over 90% of the responses favor the bill's passage. This tells me that either the opponents are cowards, or the voting is seriously flawed. I suspect that the one or two bitter people who have been vocal on this board are voting multiple times to throw off the poll....

I'm currently active duty Air Force serving along side my brothers and sisters from all branches. I believe that this bill is a step in the right direction because it whether or not everyone else realizes, it takes alot of heart and courage to sign on that dotted line and sacrificing ourselves to maintain the freedoms we have earned for every American Citizen. Whether you served 1 year or 20+ years, you made a decision to become part of our nation's shield and that in itself should earn you the right to remain a part of our nation's military either directly or indirectly meaning even the simplest privileges such as the exchanges, commissaries, and gyms. And even those simple things could never be enough to repay the courage of all those who served putting service before self....

Anothe rreason for base privalages is the reduction in after combat stress, If veterans were able to keep some sort of connection to th emilitary, their PTSD symptoms might be less, But being isolated from that life makes PTSD worse.

I was allowed to use th ePX one day during a local air show with my VA card, not allowed booze or cigarettes, not really into them, but it felt really good to be able to use the aafes shoppette while waiting for all the trafic to leave the base. Brought some of the good memories of the service back instead of the nightmares I have been experiencing for the past 17 years...

This is great and I am sure that this will be approved, we deserve this.

Bill, your overuse of misspelled words is a key to your ignorance. Not everyone is able to complete a 20 year career. I, like many others, were injured in the line of duty. It is those who made the ultimate sacrifice and deserve these privileges more so than you. You should be ashamed. I would have loved to serve with you, simply so I could have put you in your place....

Brothers, I am a 60% S/C vet with a wife and 2 small kids. I have served my country and would be serving now if I did not get wounded amd medically discharged. These privalages would help us out since it is so tough and I am limited to what I can do now. I miss the service so much and I would do it all over knowing what I know now. I would give my life just like my brothers have that I served with no questions...this in itself entitles me to these privaliges....

I am a 70% disabled vet who also had to pay back his severance pay to get a VA compensation. This would be nice to actually use the commisary which is actually cheaper for me in Washington D.C.

The whole disability system is screwed up because veterans who serve less then 8 years with a rating over 30% will not get a ID card under the current medical retiree system unless it is during a time of war they were discharged. Other wise u must serve more then 8 years. The discrimination of veteran against veteran must stop....

This bill is way too long in coming. I am a permanent employee of the Defense Commissary Service ana I cannot shop there, even with an 80% rating! It makes me sick to my stomach to assist customers, some of whom can't even speak English, and are eligible based on distant relatives. I am all for distant relatives having access, but it is a slap in the face of a disabled veteran who works there and can't buy there! Makes no sense to me. Anyone able to explain it?...
