The war of the rebellion was the most turbulent time in U.S history. The people, both North and South, survived it and are stronger Americans because of it.
It essentially DEFINED us as a people. Prewar, the U.S. ARE merely a collection of independent governments...postwar the United States of America IS...The issues of states rights, slavery, abolitionists, inventions (300+), battlefield tactics, the courage of the people to stand up for what they believe in, military advancements (first submarine, iron clads, rifled muskets, repeating weapons, surveilance balloons, the railroad, the cotton gin, etc...)and our fallen Americans who gave their last full measure for a new birth of freedom all dictate the neccessity of National remembrance....
