This bill is a terrible way to give the Quileute tribe the land they deserve to continue their way of life as they see fit. Congress has tied the unpopular land grab of Olympic wilderness to the granting of new lands to a Native American tribe. The previous tribal lands are mostly inundated with coastal waters and regularly sees flooding. Adequate land for housing and transportation is getting harder to come by. Ceding land to the tribe which was originally their land is the right thing to do. Tying that action to the closing of forest lands to economic development and use for forestry practices is just wrong. These are two separate issues and not passing the bill is an attempt to make the nay-sayers look insensitive to the needs of the tribe. I am against the land grab of these 4,100 acres but the support the tribe. Working forests mean working families, and more milltime means more mealtime for working Americans.
