July 11, 2009, 5:25am (report abuse)There is a provision in this bill that would grant enemy combatants greater access to the nation's highest military court -- the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces -- than that of America's own troops. I've written about this on Equal Justice for Troops blog: http://justice4troops.blogspot.com/2009/07/should-congress-grant-enemy-comb... />
Under this bill enemies of America have greater procedural due process rights in military court appeals over U.S. servicemembers.

July 15, 2009, 11:20am (report abuse)PEOPLE THIS BILL IS NOT ABOUT THE NATIONAL DEFENSE NOW. Sen. Patrick Leahy took the floor of the Senate on Monday, July 13, to argue for passage of his hate crimes amendment to S. 1390, "National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010." THIS BILL IS NOW A HATE CRIMES, TAKING AWAY OF OUR 1ST ADMENDMENT RIGHTS BILL. This bill has now got S909 hate crimes bill attached to it. Please view the shocking video of Attorney General Holder saying the hate crimes bill will NOT offer equal protection or justice for all @ www.truthtellers.org

You are absolutely right. They are adding the hates crime legislation onto the bill to insure that it is passed. Washington shenanigans once again. The hate crimes legislation will greatly limit FREE SPEECH!
DO NOT LET YOUR CONGRESSMEN/WOMEN VOTE FOR THIS!

July 20, 2009, 10:58am (report abuse)The real truth is that the hates crime bill is attached to the National Defense Authorization because there is too much opposition to pass it as a stand alone bill...This is the agenda of the LGBT and it cannot stand.

July 20, 2009, 11:07am (report abuse)How do the sleaze-bags who add such bills as SB 909 to unrelated legislation to avoid debate and sure failure continue to be re-elected? Is there no one in Leahy's state willing to expose him for what he is?

(logged in user) July 20, 2009, 3:16pm (report abuse)This bill provides for 7 more F-22 aircraft, which we desperately need. It also provides, by mens of an amendment, for the government payment for abortion.
This is a massive conundrum. We need about 200 more F-22s, yet abortion is just murder of the most innocent.
WE NEED TO PRAY FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE ABORTION AMENDMENT FROM THIS BILL.

July 22, 2009, 1:32pm (report abuse)Here are the facts of life for you airplane fans... Trash all of the F-22's if they set out in the sun too long they won't start. Replace them with the F-35's those planes work!

October 14, 2009, 12:01am (report abuse)There is language in the bill that states no part of it should be interpreted to interfere with First Amendment rights. It only provides greater protection to groups that experience hate-related violence, which has been on the rise in recent years.
Hate crimes are not a right and never were. Be honest with your agenda. Read the bill before you carry on the will of others.
