This Bill is admirable, but it doesn't address the plight of those unemployed who are about to lose all benefits. I think that the Dems fear that they would have to pay for it with already allocated stimulus funds, which for somer reason are strongly opposed to it. Republicans know this and will make this a sticking point.

I have two more weeks of EUC. I have sent out 60 resumes in the past month and have received no interviews. People in the Buffalo, NY area simply aren't hiring.

I'm a single mother of 3 kids. We are barely staying afloat now. I have 3 degrees and have no hope of any employment any time soon.

I have been unemployed since November 2008 and have been trying to find another job since.

PLEASE HELP MY FAMILY AND ME.

Please pass HR 4707 which will entend tiers until the end of the year. People can't live like this wondering every other week if their benefits are going to be extended. Please help our families that through no fault of our own do not have a job.

Maybe if we had the money that was spent to bail corporations out, (those that are back to making a profit and paying out those crazy bonuses), we could help the families of America...

If this doesn't happen, we need to help our representatives out by giving them early retirement on election day.

Too bad for the people who have dedided to go back to school so they cn wonc again become employed. I hav been cut off e times. I am in an approved course of study. It is also a fact that I must go out regularly to apply for jobs and still have not found one. I wish I knew when I signed up if I am going to end up cut off and then have to fight to get the unemployment once again. If I knew that the fight was going to come I am not so sure I would accept the pell grant as if I drop I must repay the grant. Why would I drop? To be honest, because of the constant fight to get the unemployment. Without it I can no longer pay for gas, or insurance for my car. The constant disruption in my unemployment does not help while trying to update my education. I only wish I could find work once again. Right now there just is no work available.

I need the extension to pay my cobra insurance. I have twins, both with chronic medical conditions. I use my unemployment to pay the cost of their medications and cobra coverage (which is still expensive). I worked with same company for 14 years with clean work history. I lost my job because TN is "AT WILL" state, meaning they don not need a reason to let you go.

If the rate is up in TN you should extend benefits......PASS THE BILL!

For all of us 99ers, We need to remind the house and the senate about the work they did in november to give us that tier 3 and 4, and that in a short 4-5 months they have forgotten about us. We seem to have been very important a few months ago, why not now. Ask them if they think there are jobs for us out there and how long did they think 20 weeks were going to last. Seems to me about 4-5 months!! The question should be asked, WHY ARE WE LESS IMPORTANT NOW, then we were in NOv-DEC. If all else fails we should go to Washington ourselves!!! We need to be heard, or nothing will happen!!!

ya. it don't sound encouraging when you call and talk to these aids of the senators about tier 5. I even called the white house and sent at least 15 e-mails to the white house about a tier 5 you have to keep sending e-mails to the white house because they receive thousands a day so your chance of getting one threw is slim and the comment line is also very busy and sounds like a bunch of senior citizens when they do answer must be volunteer work but very friendly. but I think the president has also forgot about the 99er's and what a shame I voted for this man and he's the one that said this is going to be a very long process and he is right.but you can't give up on people because they run their 99 weeks out this thing is still years from getting back to normal if ever! the economy will get worse and you think the crime rate is bad now what a few months and keep your guns loaded not that i have any money but I still have things of value to me. I will never vote for a rep. again and won't be voting for to many dems. either. there is money to pay for a tier 5 in the stimulus money all they have to do is cut something out and that wouldn't be hard to do.it's more important to keep Americans in their homes and to pay their bills to survive. This president has forgot about the 99er's and he's the one that said this mess were in won't be over until maybe 2014 and he's already cutting unemployment. If I'm not mistaken that's why he is president right now because of the economic problems we are facing. screw his health care for now people has to be working to pay for health care and right now that's not happening and won't be for years! This president is a failed president in his first year.what ever they would cut from the stimulus could be taken care of once we get some of the money back from the loans or once the economy starts it's rebound.Wake up Mr. President and take care of the American people first. That's your job!!

After this so-called extension expires, you watch and see, news will be that the Prez, Guitner, and Big Ben Bernanke will announce unemployment rates are falling, millions of us got jobs, all because they won't extend unemployment anymore. The tier 4 will be the end. And when people exhaust their unemployment in June, wait till they go through the same thing as the 99ers are now.

I am both financially and spiritually broke. As I am awake in this early hour I wonder what will I feed my daughter for breakfast in the morning. Knowing that I can no longer avoid it I will apply for welfare today and look for shelter. For the government they can pound sand. You have failed us. So the next time you vote to send foreign aid without bickering over how it will be paid for remember me and and all the other lives you have destroyed in this very country. Clinton is right to fear anger among americans and my only hope is that it comes you fat cat politicians who cast out millions of americans to the streets and destroyed our lives.

I called & emailed Calif. Sen. Feinstein, Sen Boxer, & Gov. Arnold & called Sen. Harry Reid's office (Federal US Sen.) who pushed for other past unemployment bills. His Staff Assist. said "nothing is being done to add more unemployment weeks past the 99 weeks because there has been no interest shown enough to add more weeks." (yeah, right) I called Gov. Arnold S. office today- was told they have nothing to do with the Fed. extensions, just state! Today I received an email reply from Sen. Boxer who does NOT mention adding more unemployment weeks past 99, ONly ref. the deadline to "collect on all extensions" has been extended. I guess we need to be heard more thru emails/faxes/phones until they think there IS an interest to add unemployment wks. past 99. An Examiner Newspaper article said the recently collecting unemployed are upset with the long-term unemployed collecting. It's hard to believe. They would like us to do that so they don't have to add more weeks maybe.

Be careful how you respond to this. The market started falling during Bush's term....but it was when Obama took the lead in the primaries. They knew what he would do. Now we all have to endure the taxes, regulation and lawyers. Cut any of them, and the jobs will return

All we have done is create another class of welfare dependent citizens. As long as all these extensions continue to be approved there is no incentive for any of these folks to get a job. And don't give the great boo-hoo about no jobs out there. If you want to work you can find work. It may be hard, dirty, and even beneath your "station in life" but it is out there.

WNV Headline: Unemployment Extension Provisions Possible Within Weeks

During the weekly meeting of the National Press Club yesterday, Senator Levin addressed the much sought out question regarding H.R. 4213 American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act of 2010. During the session the Senator remarked, he “wants to see the extenders bill, and a small-business-focused tax bill (HR 4849) passed by the House in March, enacted before lawmakers leave for the Memorial Day recess.”

Although, this bill approved by the Senate in March does not address the question of additional weeks of unemployment compensation it does allow for the extension of the current EUC programs until the end of 2010.

Yes jobs are out there, but not jobs with health insurance. So if you have a family, or even single and a illness you will not get insurance and if you did you could not afford. The thing needs be done is let people work, and help with health insurance and people might go back to work with lesser income, and a job lesser than they are used to. So before you act as if everyone is a charity case, think about it. You must not be someone unemployed or no health insurance or family or you would not think as you do. Many good people worked for years and in a situation of no choice. Many are between a rock and hard point. Wondering what to do to live. We all need to pull together to help one another vs beating another down for the economy has done that to many. So each of us need to pray and have faith something well work out. May not be what we like, but alot of times change turns out to be a blessing. Just have faith. I am in the same boat as so many others are too.

Has your staff told you or showed you the thousands upon thousands of calls and letters in regards to TIER V UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSIONS for the 2 million who have used 99 weeks and need a lifeline emergency extension? All house and senate are getting them in volume. Democrats and republicans.

But the silence on TIER V is amazing!!!

It seems to be falling upon deaf ears in congress!!

A march on Washington is being planned now.

Lives are in the balance on this!!!

These Americans by no fault of their own

Cannot find work after nearly two years!!!

We are in an economic depression not seen since the 1930’s.

This economic crisis was caused by the republicans and some democrats as well.

Also the banks wall street and the rich are to blame.

Then they were to big to fail and we bailed then out insteads of the working class and unemployed! shame shame shame.

Please inform your fellow congressmen on both sides this TIER V greater than 99 weeks unemployment extension issue WILL cost them the election.

Not health care not the rest. This TIER V will.

do you have hearts?. Pay for this anyway you have to but pass it now.

We are going into a full blown depression by OCT 2010 hang on kids its going to be a bumpy ride!!

We are being misled on the unemployment numbers but they can only play with then for so long

Unemployment will be at 13-15% officially by Oct 2010.

I wrote a letter to Fox News on how the media is reporting to the nation that the "long term" unemployed are taken care of until the end of May. I've been out of work since January 2008. THAT is long term unemployment, not over six months. Fox didn't even open the email. Fair and Balanced?

We only have ourselves to depend on now. The government is ignoring us trying to get themselves re-elected. No incumbant is safe as far as I'm concerned. Tell me where and when the march is. I'll find some way of getting there.

WNV UPDATE:

Unemployment Extension | Tier V Questionable Before Break

The House Ways and Means Committee still has time to find some $27 billion to extend the existing EUC programs out until the end of the year however, that will only handle a relatively small percentage of both the unemployed and underemployed. In fact, the program may see even quicker closer since; estimations have enough people exhausting unemployment benefits under all programs by the end of July, to falsely lower that percentage utilized to trigger the unemployment extension program below levels thusly, cutting millions more from the program.

Who wrote this: "More welfare. Gimme, gimme, gimme. The crying and whining just goes on and on and on" must have a job and health benefits and income support there needs. Or trying to play with lives. And for writing Fox News, you have Hannity who is so against anything in this world! Fox is for Rich GOP's only!!! God help them if they ever, ever get in situation as so many in our country are now. It is sad our goverment is about their jobs getting re-elected. But even if they did not get re-elected they still have a gold card for health care, and finance. So they are in a win-win no matter what. Yes so many of us needs the extenstion, rather Unemployment income, or health care. We got to believe some way all will work out, for without faith we have nothing. I pray each of you will have a better tomorrow soon.

Sounds to me like they have worked and put money away. Unlike the whiners who frequent this and similar sites.

More welfare. Gimme, gimme, gimme. The crying and whining just goes on and on and on.

Sheesh, I was just hoping to make it to Tier 2. I finished Tier 1 of Unemployment Benefits (Va) 2 weeks ago and was notified that I cannot get any further benefits unless congress extends the April 5th deadline. I am confused. Was the deadline extended and if so, why does it take so long for it to trickle down to the states so one could apply for extended benefits? They told me at the Employment Office they would contact me if the situation changed and I responded by advising the clerk that my benefits were ended 2 weeks before I received notice of termination. It's rough out here. Phone and electric are about to be cut. The cupboard is bare and the bank account is dry. If anyone can advise, it's appreciated.

FRS-apply for food stamps and temporary assistance at DSS office. Bring all documents to prove you have no money. You can get Medicaid too but plan on waiting for a while. Note: temp assistance only pays a little for rent. I didn't apply cause they want so much info, you wait a few months, I felt it's not worth the amount they are paying. If you are disabled, you can get more benefits, but that is a year to get, if they determine you are disabled. They want you to go to shelters. That is cheaper for them than to pay a decent amount on welfare. Email your senators and tell them you want a Tier 5. http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Maybe "no name" is getting paid by a member of Congress to post his/her inane remarks on these sites. Obviously he/she hasn't had to try & find a job lately! Hopefully he/she will have to be looking for one soon! Experience is the best way to learn.

I'm not afraid to put my name up here. And I agree with the comments about just creating another welfare class. Far too many people riding on the gravy train. If it was all cut off tomorrow most of you would take that available job you don't want. Because the taxpayers are paying your way you have no reason to work.

I say shut it down and see.

WBBM 780am radio is airing a commerical from a search job site called "jobs4.0." The commercial is wrong and states: The government recently extended more weeks of unemployment benefits to the unemployed workers trying to find needed work. With this new bill passing it is giving more extension benefits to the unemployed - also giving up to two years of unemployment also to help the unemployed. Than goes into his job search site of jobs4.0

I sent jobs4.0 telling him (Steve Greenburg) that this is wrong and there were no added weeks of extension benefits - benefits were just re-instated. I also called the radio station and informed them also. Said would look into it. Radio station tel. # is:312 - 297 - 7800

I believe that this last bill was worded wrong when it came out on the national news.

The radio station is out of Chicago. Not sure if nation wide in other markets tho.

On April 15, 2010, President Obama signed H.R. 4851, the House version of the UI benefits extension. If the Senate version had become law, the Tier benefits would have been much better. We need to go to work on our Senators and Congressmen and tell them to support S. 2831 by Senator Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island). For example, S. 2831 allows part-time workers to keep their EUC Tier benefits, while the House version does not. See http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0329/Is-any-work-better-than-no-work-Not-for-unemployment-benefits

You can compare H.R. 4851 and S. 2831 at http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-4851 AND http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s111-2831

Hey Jack Lewis. I say you try living off a $9 an hour part time job. It doesn't pay the rent or any other bills that well. This is all that is out there—if you can "sell" which I can't. We are trying to find decent jobs in our chosen field, what we have been doing for 20-30 years or more. This economy was ruined and our senators do not want to continue to provide until it gets better. I say shame on you all. AND it is all "cut off". See the reaction? It's not good.

Yep.. that is part of the problem. State of Indiana(and other states) can only earn up-to 20% of your weekly benefit amount. My case $78 dollars. Anything earned about that get's taken away dollar from dollar from the weekly benefit amount. Thus also get's taxed - total combo. is less than the weekly benefit amount than. So, trying to get project work that is less than $78 per week to keep from getting taxed and still have the full weekly benefit amount.

So all you are saying is you would rather sit on your backside and let the rest of us support you than work and pay a little bit in taxes. That just confirms the whole point about creating another welfare entitlement group.

Sounds like not a one of you has any pride or self-respect left. All you want to do is blame it all on someone else.
