April 4, 2009, 11:59am (report abuse)Why tax s.s. at all. Give us a break. To most people this is not a fair tax who are living day to day. Repeal it back to 1993 or better yet repeal it or end it to people under a certain income.

April 15, 2009, 11:43am (report abuse)THIS S.S.TAX OF THE ELDERLY AND
DISABLED IS OUTRAGEOUS.I WORKED
FOR 46 YEARS AND PAID INTO S.S.PLUS PAID MY TAXES ONLY TO FIND OUT MY TAXES WOULD BE TAXED.THIS LAW SHOULD BE REPEALED.

April 20, 2009, 1:03pm (report abuse)Why not treat Social Security like a Roth IRA? We pay taxes on the money before we hand it over to Social Security so why not let us take it out without taxes, just like the Roth.

April 20, 2009, 1:09pm (report abuse)Let's help these senior citizens out here. Why should they pay taxes on something twice?

April 20, 2009, 1:19pm (report abuse)I pay enough taxes already. Why should I pay twice on my social security?

April 20, 2009, 1:24pm (report abuse)Thank you for bumping this up. We need to work on getting this travesty corrected now.

April 21, 2009, 12:58am (report abuse)I have already paid the taxes on this why should I pay again? Pass this bill.

April 21, 2009, 1:02am (report abuse)If half as many cared about this as cared about horses or getting prisoners out of jail we would have it fixed by now. Please repeal the tax on social security. Thanks,

April 23, 2009, 9:29am (report abuse)I'm one of the Seniors being taxed on my SSDI. We're also taxed on our State Retirement. Every time there's a cost of living we might see $2.00 of it. What SS gives, the State takes away and vice versa. Our insurance on both also go up with no relief. Then income tax season we pay again. I'm tired of paying to breathe.

May 3, 2009, 6:35pm (report abuse)This is important for all retirees. Please get your congress persion on board.

May 26, 2009, 4:20am (report abuse)In the first place taxing SS is double taxation...We paid FICA through ou pay checks and now that we are drawing SS we pay tax again???? Now that's something to write your congressional leader about...
CRT
May 26, 2009, 7:58am (report abuse)The FICA was the money paid into Social Security. What you should be talking about is the fact that you paid income taxes on this money as well, before it was paid to Social Security. Now that you are drawing Social Security you are paying taxes again, on the same money.

June 7, 2009, 2:52pm (report abuse)If having 85 per cent of my S.S. taxed isn't bad enough, I recently found out that my mandatory annual distribution from an IRA account is taxed, up-front, at 15%. Then the same amount must be added to S.S. income and taxed again for a total of 30%.
Joyce
June 15, 2009, 1:05pm (report abuse)Need to get rid of taxes on social security at age 65 or whatever. The government is plundering the fund with the war--and that is the real reason ss is going broke. They do not have it in a separate fund.

June 16, 2009, 3:27pm (report abuse)Have never heard of a good reason to tax SS payments. Repeal it.

June 19, 2009, 11:07am (report abuse)I think Obama should leave our bill of rights
alone.They were set up by
our fore fathers for the
rights of the people.Obama has no right
or the comgress or senate
to change these bills.
We sure don't need a president that wants to
apologize for some
thing we did not start
further more we sure don't need him in office
for two years not to mention for 25 years or longer. Seems to me we
or he is heading this
wonderful country of ours
down the road to dictator
ship fast. NO NO NO NO
to amendent 22.

(logged in user) June 27, 2009, 12:39pm (report abuse)Will they grandfather us retirees (who have already paid into the system)into this terriable plan? What is happening here is a shame. It shouldn't be happening in America to the elderly. Another way that America is NOT taking care of its elderly.

July 3, 2009, 3:02am (report abuse)The unjust double income taxation of social secutity benefits should be a call to arms - but alas we americans do not hold our political representatives accountable for their imoral acts.

(logged in user) July 22, 2009, 11:41am (report abuse)Double taxation is an abomination. There should be no taxes paid on money we have already paid taxes on!

August 3, 2009, 9:45am (report abuse)I saw Communism first hand, lived in a Socialist Country. If the black population, and the youth of this country, who were the deciding votes do not wake up to the fact that this Socialist is heading us toward a dictatorship, then we are doomed. Take away the people's money via taxes and unlawful legislation, guns through scare tactics and intimidation of gun owners, and the rights by getting activist judges on the various court benches throughout this nation, and finally there you have it - Socialism and eventually Communism. The weak kneed leadership of the National Republican Party should hang their head in shame at the offering of a weak kneed, crowd appeasing moderate liberal as a candidate for president which has lead us to where we are apparently headed.

August 6, 2009, 7:05am (report abuse)The shell game. SS was a tax burden in 1936. SS tax Act in its beginning had a known Terminal date. Utilizing the acorn Shell Game method-deception, this date has progressively been moved outward to todays relization of 'terminal'. Tax a Tax? Budget
accounting does not reflect the reuse of the citizens tax investment - SS, that every dollar is spent each year. And they - Congress calls your investment as "in Trust savings".

August 6, 2009, 5:33pm (report abuse)To best solve this problem - VOTE and vote to put those who make these laws be part of the system. Like they say if you don't play the game don't make the rules

August 9, 2009, 7:49pm (report abuse)Imposing any tax on SS benefits is unfair and illogical. I am seeing my benefits dwindling due to the requirement for paying taxes on my social security....The politcians are robbing senior citizens of the little money received from SSI.. This needs to stop........Eliminate all taxes on SSI....
Jim Braccio
August 12, 2009, 6:20pm (report abuse)FYI: Summary of where the proceeds from social security and railroad retirement Tier I benefits are credited to.... At the fifty percent rate , it is credited to old-age and survivors insurance trust fund, the disabilty trust fund and the railroad retirement system, all based on the source of the benefit taxed...In 1993 Tier 2 was passed.....and taxes up to 85% of benefits on income exceeding 44,000.00 (married couples) and tax proceed goes to medicare hospital insurance trust fund....all this is not indexed for inflation or wage growth......Now how wrong is all this? The government is taking our benefits...........
...
August 16, 2009, 5:01pm (report abuse)With the tax-and-spend party in power we need to push harder or this bill will just fall by the wayside.
JB
August 17, 2009, 10:37am (report abuse)Because social security benefits are not indexed for inflation or wage growth, the share of beneficiaries affected by these thresholds is increasing over time. According to Congressional Budget Office, 39% of(or 16.9 million) ss beneficiaries were affected by the income taxation of ss benefits in 2005. 32% of ss benefits affected in 2000; and 26%in 1998. As you can see, we are losing our benefits each year.

(logged in user) August 17, 2009, 11:39am (report abuse)This tax should have been repealed many years ago, or not even established. It amounts to double taxation of taxed income.

August 17, 2009, 8:03pm (report abuse)No taxes on ss benefits. Also repel the offset law whick prevents me from drawing full benefit from my deceased husband who paid into SS for 40 years.
ANITA MAYFIELD
August 18, 2009, 6:53am (report abuse)It sure as heck seems to me that we're literally getting the screws put to us twice! They tax our income which SS & SSI come out of and then they want to tax it again...geez... somebody please pass the KY 'cause as usual, it's gonna hurt like hell. Y'all please get in touch with your "ELECTED OFFICIAL" and unload on them & remind them that laws change & so do the politicians !!!

August 18, 2009, 11:52am (report abuse)Taxing SS is "Double Taxation" and illegal. I paid FICA while working all my life and now I am taxed on my SS.

August 30, 2009, 3:14pm (report abuse)I went to a citizen forum a while ago and asked a Congressman why the
SS money we pay in can't cover all expenses, he said it is put into treasury bonds and is good as gold.
But really the gov. takes this cash, spends it for unknown reasons and leaves worthless paper in it's place. When I questioned the congressman about this he said I was talking too loud and never answered the question. Then went on to another topic.

September 12, 2009, 1:17pm (report abuse)PatriciaGE1S9 is one of those who will take any opportunity to beat their personal agenda, regardless of the situation or audience.
As to the bill, I fully support the repeal of income tax on social security benefits. I believe it should be treated the same as a traditional IRA. We paid taxes on the money we paid into the system. We should not have to pay taxes on the money when we take it out.

(logged in user) October 8, 2009, 12:23am (report abuse)Our government leaders have turned Washington into a den of thieves. They live high on the hog like kings while the rest of Americans loose their jobs & homes. They cut education, social security or any other decant programs so they can spend more on their pork. This bail out has become a disaster placing Obomas gurus in charge with the government taking over everything. America has got to take back our country. Toss the crooks out & bring our constitution back along with God.If they want to share the wealth, let them share their wealth, they have taken all of ours. If we don't stand up we are doomed.God help us.

October 12, 2009, 10:46am (report abuse)In the first place, I paid FICA tax through my working life. Now I have to pay income tax on my SS...
This is double taxation without representation and illegal!
