Library of Congress Sound Recording and Film Preservation Programs Reauthorization Act of 2008 - Amends the National Recording Preservation Act of 2000 (the Act) to authorize appropriations through FY2014:FY2016 for: (1) for the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress activities for the purposemaintenance and preservation of maintaining and preserving sound recordings that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant; and (2) for the National Recording Preservation Foundation to accept and administer private gifts to promote and ensure the preservation and public accessibility of the nation's sound recording heritage held at the Library of Congress and other public and nonprofit archives.
AmendsRevises the National Film Preservation Act of 1996 to authorize appropriations through FY2014standards for removal by the National Film Preservation BoardLibrarian of the LibraryCongress of Congress. Updates the namesa member of organizations that represent the Library's National Recording Preservation Board.
Authorizes appropriations to the LibraryAllows board members of Congress through FY2017 for the National FilmRecording Preservation Foundation. Instructs such Foundation to encourage, accept, and administer private gifts to ensure the repatriation of American films from foreign archives.
