While I believe this is a step in the right direction, if I understand it correctly it is for "new" employees only. Kudos to those that are making this valiant effort to make things right.

Bryan

Right, it's for "new" employees. It is voluntary (unless an employer has a national security nature). It eliminates any state laws requiring employers to use it. On top of having no teeth, it is attempting to restart a project that has been worked on for years, it's an attempt to stall verification.

Don't outsource

Well what do you know another “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act” and “Dream Act”.Will they ever learn? Can't believe that these neocons were voted into office! Our Politician are all Luciferians!!

Jack

Read this Bill - it is okay but has two real bad flaws:

1) Requires that an employer actually hire the worker before he can check the system on eligibility. Why? That's crazy.

2) Allows for private entities to set up a parallel “Secure Employment Eligibility Verification System” which can be used in lieu of the federal government system. There are no specified constraints on who can set up these external systems. They have access to SS numbers and all federal info. Identity theft will be out of control with this one.

Needs to be changed before it passes.

Bill

It is nasty piece of work. It RESCINDS all the state passed laws against the illegal aliens.

Will set up firestorm when they find out it not only RESCINDS ALL STATE LAWS....it also forbids any new ones.

Section 101(b)(2)(A), which reduced to simple language* would preempt and ban any and all state or local law for immigration-related issues enacted to impose employer fines or sanctions, or would forbid any laws requiring employers to verify work status or identity

Bill

There is an article on it over on Human Events...bad stuff.

scam

Another scam bill.

Thanks for the link to the human events article. E-Verify is improving all the time, and I cannot find anything in this "new" system that shows that it would be anything beyond a scam to delay, not as effective, more intrustive in privacy rights, and obstruct those that are trying to get enforcement in spite of the constant pressure to not enforce by those supporting open borders.

Bud

Here we go again. Yet another attemp at amnesty for the over 25 million plus illegals in this country.

misterbill

what a sneaky deal--it is intended to remove any and all states' rights to control illegal immigration within their boundareies by removing the ability to enforce laws and punishments against employers. It looks as if it were written by the US Chamber of Commerce (which today is an alias for down with the American worker).
