Radio’s reach is universal and inexpensive costing just 3¢ per listener per week. Hard-to-jam radio reaches across physical, demographic and political boundaries. Battery and crank operated radios are everywhere affordable.
The BBC reports that its shortwave audience increased by 3 million last year to 183 million with two-thirds listening on shortwave.
However the bureaucrats in Washington are silencing the Voice of America, closing 55 of its 130 transmitters with more closures on the way. That’s why H.R. 3598 is important because silence says nothing for America.

June 18, 2008, 4:17am (report abuse)The BBG has been systematically dismantling the Voice of America for over three years, based on the short-sighted plan to emphasize the Internet and television and de-emphasize the cost-effective medium of radio. Congresswoman McCollum is seeking to correct that approach and deserves your support.
