This is binding the hands of parents who want to teach their children respect for a firearm!

David A. Jordan

Another bill (HR 1022) specifically mentions the M1 carbine as an "assault weapon." Where I live (Tooele County, Utah), the M1 carbine is considered a suitable rifle for a father to use to introduce his son to target shooting, because of its light weight and modest report and recoil. We define a "target rifle" as a rifle that has sights.

Ain't it precious how our leftist government uses reasons like "keeping guns out out the hands of minors" to push for the goal of keeping guns out of the hands of us all?

brokenhearted

It's illegal to endanger a child with the presence of drugs, but it's not illegal to endanger a child with the presence of an un-locked lethal weapon?
I'm writing to everybody I know to ask them to support this bill.
My only child is dead because of an irresponsible, negligent gun owner. We have a "war" on drugs? Well, I'm declaring a "war" on handguns and negligent gun owners.
There are far more people who are broken hearted from the death of their children due to guns, than there are members of the NRA.
Handguns are for cowardly sissies. It's time we take our country back from violent sissies and put it back into the hands of intelligent, HUMANE people who truly care about the welfare of our children.

"Respect" for a firearm? Where's your respect for a child's welfare and human life? "Binding" the hands of parents? How about "Freeing" them from the potential agony and anguish of losing their child forever because of a gun someone didn't "feel like" locking up something designed to kill people. With regard to "minors" having guns, why would you want someone without a fully developed pre-frontal cortex (the area of the brain responsible for decision-making) to have a gun? That's like having an infant run for President! Instead of teaching children to "respect" guns, why not teach them to respect themselves and human life?

To brokenhearted, What became of the irresponsible, negligent gun owner? Was this person prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law? If not, see to it that he/she is and leave us responsible "cowardly sissies" alone!!! To gunsrhorrible, No one suggested that minors should be allowed to possess and use firearms without adult supervision, it is illegal to do so and I submit that any parent who fails to abide by this law should face jail time and lose custody of their child for gross endangerment! I personally am sick and tired of irresponsible parents contributing to the cause of the far-left to pass more Orwellian legislation like this that punishes exponetially more law abiding citizens than it does law breakers!

Guns

Every child should be taught the responsibility of handling guns and how to respect guns. My brother and I grew up in a house of loaded guns, father was a vietnam vet, and we never ever mishandled any firearm in the house because our father taught us the importance of guns and how to handle them properly. Parents are responsible for teaching the kids the dangers in the world and how to cope with them. Not hope that the dangers will just disappear and everyone will be safe.

To Guns
Amen

I grew up in a house with loaded handguns. Not once did it ever cross my mind that these were toys or things to be mishandled. My parents taught me that guns were for killing, whether animals or humans, and should be practiced with responsibly and taken care of. I spent my youth in the Boy Scouts and grew up learning responsibility, generosity, conservation, and survival in the wild. While under age, I learned to use rifles and handguns for what they are meant for, hunting and self defense. So I ask the promoters of this bill, what is the point of having a self defense weapon, if I can't use it? Do you really think the police will protect me? As for me, the shotgun stays where it is.

There are different parents. Some are good and some aren’t. You folks seem were fortunate to be with the good ones. Unfortunately not every child is being raised by a good parent. This law will force parents to be more responsible and separate the child and the gun. I think it is an important measure to prevent the kids from getting hurt. In addition with all of these school rampage shootings it is crucial that the gun owners keep their guns locked.
