The Ethiopian dictator (Zenawi) has been enjoying long the status of official bogey man to the Bush administration under the pretext of fighting terrorism in the horn when it is very clear that brutal dictators such as Zenawi are the root causes of hatred against the US every where.

The US congress and senate must demonstrate the principles of democracy by supporting the bill that cuts funds to the dictatorial thugs in Ethiopia along the travel restrictions against those who are involved in mass killings and torture. The US must know that inevitably and surely the Ethiopian people will topple the brutal dictators. It must be also clear that the congress action today will be important to impact the potential bitterness and hatred that may arise towards US in the future if the US continue to back the Ethiopian dictators.

This is despite gross human rights violations and brutal repression by the regime. In contrast, a section of the American Congress has been striving to support democratisation in Ethiopia. (1) a former gorriella leader

(2) was a former or current communist (Zenawi happens to be a communist. Hint: What are formerly known as communists have now a new name "revolutionary democrats".
