All other governmental and state job employees receive both disability and retirement pay if seriously injured on the job. Why shouldn't those serving in the military be the only members of government and state that do not receive retirement pay along with disability pay? The answer is they should receive both. This legislative act has been repealed in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 due to congress not caring about the Veterans unfortunately. It is high time that congress passes this legislation and not just say they support Veterans but actually take action and vote this into law. Vote yes on H.R. 1436

If I have read it correctly, the new legislation only applies to those who have serves 20 years or more. I feel bad for those younger enlisted troops who became disabled prior to making it to 20 years of service

Recruitment is directly proportionate to the way veterans of previous wars were treated.
Quote from George Washington, our 1st president
Elton R. Bynum
What would happen if a member of congress were to fall down and become disabled. Would their pay be treated the same as those who risked their lives, because congress and the president chose to sent them to war. This seems to be a farse to those in position to do something about it, instead of pointing fingers and slandering each other, can't congress do something to improve the quality of live that they have had a heavy hand in destroying. The status quo is discusting and is an insult to those proud men and women who have been lucky enough to survive only to be deserted by the same congress and president who sent us in harms way to start with.

This is a disservice to troops who have givin there to serve this country. They should have the wright to confensaded as well. If they have a disiblity due to their military service, they to should confensaded, There lives are worth any less then thoes who have 20 years or more

i am tired of congress trying to pit one group of vetrans against another when it comes to benefits we all took the same oath to defend this great country of ours and all deserve to be treated equally i had 19yrs 6months 25 days active duty when i was medically discharged from the army but because i did have 5 more months active duty i am not elligible for concurrent receipt is this fair no

The time for lip service from the govt. is over. Vets, lets get the bums out of office that say they support vets but do nothing more. To the president and congress... we will not rest until all disabled vets are treated fairly, retired or medicaly seperated. Stop throwing crumbs to the few in the hopes of pacifing all. Does another 100 years have to go by before you do the right thing? You are all ready siding with death to cheat our few remaining WWII vets. Do what is right now... This should be a bi-partisan no-brainer.

All gave some, some gave all. If you meet a veteran, take a second out of your busy day and say, Thank you for my freedom.
Bill
I think every service member needs to stop whining. We should be thankful we had the privilege to serve our country and receive these measly pensions we receive after 20+ years of defending freedom all across the globe and becoming disabled while doing so. Hell, we all sure picked the wrong way to go. If we would have elected to serve only 2 years as a senator or congressman we could have been set for life. We would have received $200,000 pension and all the health benefits we can possibly have. Oh, and all those social contacts we could have made along the way would have served us all well the rest of our lives. We could have used our position to advance our social status and the lives of our loved ones. Not that any service members with integrity would do but I guess all military people are just dumb, Oh well, at least we are the real patriots and defenders of freedom everywhere in the world and will continue to be the lighthouse on the shores of democracy.
Warren
Oh well, when we're gone, they will pat our free grave marker and say thank you?

Fully intended to do 20, 30 if they had let me, but hurt during a training exercise bad enough to be permanently injured with a VA rating of 70%. Raising a family of 6 is hard on only diability. Having the retirement pay would help put food on the table since, because of my pain level I cannot do too much of anything for too long. This should be passed...t really is the right thing to do and Congress knows it. To the candidates...put your money where your mouth is.
stan
so those under 20 years active but medically retired would qualify

Disabilities incurred years ago do not remain static...most progress and in a disabled state, other illnesses compound and amplify the original problems. Compensation is only fair for the veterans who served our country!

I served faithfully in the US Air Force for 15 years and because of an injury to my back incurred while on the job, I had spine surgery which resulted in further damage and partial paralysis in my left foot. I have since had a 2nd spine surgery and receive VA disability at 70%. Because of my disabilities it has been difficult getting employers to hire me even though I have a BA and over 15 years of experience. It is unfair that I had to give up the time I spent working toward my retirement because of an injury and problem during surgery.

Another play on words to push us out guess if you put in twenty years it don't count only if ya got Med. retired what a crock!!!
SSG RET
Ya I'm retired with 20 years and yes VA gave me a 40% disability rating yes they took 40% of my retired pay and gave my pay back as disability pay , yet I have to fine work so I can get by as a retired Veteran, with disabilitys being a single parent of a teenage son it is hard to make ends meet we have waited for the the congress and white house to do the right thing for years but unless we come together it looks to never happen hope things are differant this time around but I'm not counting on it
