I think this is a good idea.

Bad Idea

Why should we give free heath care to criminals, we do not provide this to law abiding citizens.

Maritza Pestano

This is a great idea. Some of the prisoners don't deserve the punishment that they are serving. This is a great way to at least bring them back.

TINA MAZZIOTTA

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA, MY BROTHER IS A NON-VIOLENT FIRST TIME OFFENDER AND HE AND MANY OTHERS DESERVE A BETTER CHANCE AT RESUMING NORMAL LIFE WHEN THEY HAVE FINISHED SERVING THEIR SENTENCE, AND HAVE PAID THEIR DEBT TO SOCIETY. HIS SENTENCE WAS MUCH TOO LONG FOR THE CRIME HE COMMITTED, AS I BELEIVE THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN SAME SITUATION.

Horrible Idea

Why should W have to pay to get criminals back on our streets. Most of these criminals will re-commit crimes and make our communities unsafe. I know I don't want my hard earned money to help get these people back in my community.

Patricia Welker

Congress pass this bill now! This second chance is long overdue for many non violent inmates who could return to their families and become useful citizens.

Giovanni Pestano

This is a great idea. Some of those people dont deserve this and NEED to get out because they have families that need them back at home.

Tammy

I agree that this bill needs to be passed, we're paying more for non-violent first time offenders to be imprisoned, than to help reform them to be productive citizens, and not have to pay for their families, because their not able to provide support from prison!

Yvette Pestano

For all of those who posted comments stating this is a bad idea: Clearly you do not have any relatives you remotely care for who were accused of crimes that not only did they not commit, but also of crimes which they are paying for while those who actually committed the crime, but were not persecuted for it (because they have a lot of money and were able to pay their way out of punishment) are free to continue committing crimes, and live happily with their families with no guilt whatsoever. Is this Just? Is this what America is really about? Are people actually supporting not giving these people a second chance to live their lives happily, normally, and with their families? This is the situation that my family and I are facing with my dad. While I have to run into these corrupt individuals, and see them living their lives like if nothing ever happened and enjoying the millions of dollars they stole, my father is in a Prison two states away, (where we can barley go visit him because it's too expensive and we've wasted our money on attorney fees) eating old turkey and chicken, and my family is suffering the fact that all year he will not be able to be with us. Not even for Christmas and/or Thanksgiving. What am I supposed to be giving thanks for, the fact that sick people like you are asking that you don't pass this law!?! Walk a mile in my shoes, or for that matter in the prisoners shoes... how would you feel about a second chance?

Heidi

This is a great idea. It provides better re-entry for prisoners who have no family or friends supporting them thus diminishing the chance of re-entry back into the system for criminal acts that they were forced almost to commit by not having the proper car. I give my full support. To everyone else: Not all criminals are bad. Some truly regret what they do and are good people who just need a little help to become successful.

Richa

People given support after release will have more of a chance to make it lawfully, and are therefore less likely to commit further crimes. Those without support are more likely to be desperate, and therefore to be a danger to us all. It's that simple.

Great Idea!!!!

Although my husband won't need this when he gets out, there are many people he shares space with right now in the Federal Prison that will need this. My husband was an officer of a company and is now serving a prison sentence for what someone in the company did but was not an officer so my husband has to serve his time. Think before you react. We do provide this for law abiding citizens through Medicaid and those that truly need it. Not everyone leaving the prisons will need this but for those that have nothing, sometimes not even a family, by the time they leave need a little something to show them they can make it on their own or they could very well commit another crime just to go back to something they know.

Josie Powell

I agree, this is a great idea. For those people who don't agree, leave the judging up to the Lord. For your info, your so called hard earn money is paying for alot of up keep of people you probably don't want to give to like, illegal immagrants, unmarried (repeated) mothers, drug addicted babies, ect... So you need to put your judgemental beliefs away. Not all cinvicted felons will repeat their offences. Especially first time offenders, and the time they are given are rediculous too. Lets get the Federal guidelines for sentencing reduced too and reintroduce Federal Parole.
