I am currently living in Okinawa, Japan on a United States Marine Corps installation. In Okinawa, many Americans drive mini-vans which were purchased here upon arrival. I have noticed that all mini-vans come equipped with a rear crossview mirror, or backup mirror. This is a very inexpensive piece of equipment that is attached to the rear window of the vehicle, and allows you to see what objects are directly behind your rear bumper. If all such vehicles in the States came with this mirror, it would not cause a stir; no one would notice the difference in appearance. The important thing is that there is a very simple, very inexpensive way to reduce the number of children being injured and killed by these vehicle accidents. Why in the world don't we use these mirrors on these vehicles?
