The enormous saline aquifer believed to underlie large portions of New Mexico represents the only viable source of irrigation for the farms of western Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas as Climate Change bring catastrophic drought to the region. The geotechnical engineering cannot wait, as such desalination projects need to begin immediately, to preserve the nation's farmbelt.
