This country is going bankrupt.
The Democrats (like liberal GWB) will expand the welfare state even further with Socialized Medicine.
And here they are, calling on us to feed the world with yet another corrupt bureaucracy that will suck up all the funds for itself rather than getting it to the people who really need it.
Read this, do-gooders:
"For God's Sake, Please Stop the Aid!"
The Kenyan economics expert James Shikwati, 35, says that aid to Africa does more harm than good. The avid proponent of globalization spoke with SPIEGEL about the disastrous effects of Western development policy in Africa, corrupt rulers, and the tendency to overstate the AIDS problem.

If people want to really help, donate to Heifer.org or Kiva.org.
US politicians really needs to stop infantilizing Americans, and the world. They are creating monsters of never-ending needs.
Dave
Global socialism marches on......the War on Poverty failed in the US, so if we are going to fail, lets fail on a global scale!
Neil
Follow U.N. mandates....
Here's a thought get us the hell out of the U.N. Get the U.N.out of the U.S. I really could care less if they live on $2 a day. I would rather see a mass condom relief shipment to these countries....
Betty Jo
This country is beyond bankrupt. We have borrowed so much from Japan, China, Great Britian, Saudia Arabia, etc. that the numbers are frightening. The Federal Reserve is printing monopoly money to try to keep up with our debt, our money is worthless. We need to keep our civil liberties intact at all costs, which this administration has wiped it's a** with the constitution. Americans should be extremely worried. Put down your radiation emitting cellphones and get away from the propoganda box, research and think for yourself. Ignorance is spreading rampant and there is no one else to blame. We cannot even take care of the soldiers and citizens in this country. Learn from history...DON'T REPEAT IT!
Linda
There's 2 of them
The Global Poverty Act of 2007 (S. 2433)
The Global Poverty Act of 2007 (H.R. 1302)

$845 billion dollars to pay for the Global Poverty Act. Who's going to pay for this? You and me the American taxpayer. What's it going to take to stop all this ridiculous spending by Congress. Good grief folks it's time for another American Revolution. Taxation without representation is running rampant in this country. Please write your Congressman. It is as important as voting.
Mike
I agree with every comment voiced thus far. I can't even pay my owns bills. The middle class is dying. Why should we be kowtowing to a completely corrupt institution like the UN?
Karen
This should be published all over the internet and on every newspaper site so the American people know that they are being used and lied to once more. Why should we be giving money to the U.N. of all people with their horrendous record of abuses and graft?
michelle
Having lived 6 of the past 24 months in Africa, being an individual who loves Africa and it's inhabitants, I can tell you, their food in most countries is NATURAL, abundant, fresher than ours. Water is definitely a problem. It will not be appreciated because they think this is only a TOKEN to us plus the fact, take home of $200USD a month, leaves more capita spending in their pockets than most people have at $2,000 a month in the states. Pouring more of our hard earned money into a cesspool if you ask me. Go figure!
James
PLEASE contact your reps TELL them to vote NO! this is crap. That 845 Billion will cost us more the 1.5 Trillion after we borrow it. You can search this bill # to find organizations that are against stuff like this and can reach your reps easy through them. DownsizeDC.org is a good one. They also have 1 subject at a time act, and Read the bills act. Support these to make congress work for us.

Richard
I heard about this bill this week and I''m so glad to see so many people out there with the same thoughts. This bill has to be stopped. We simply can not afford it. Period! End of discussion!!
DruidMan
The Democrats (like liberal GWB) will expand the welfare state even further with Socialized Medicine.
like liberal GWB???!! This is the best yet. Did Putin write this?
Amanda
I am very interested in promoting global economic justice and I support this bill. There are many countries that are trapped in a cycle of extreme poverty and they need outside assistance to help stabilize their country. The Millenium Development Goals are a specific and well-thought out strategy that would help accomplish this. And besides the US has already agreed to these goals and to committing 0.7% of the GNP to official development assistance (ODA). This was decided in 2000 and in 2007 the US still hasn't followed through with their commitment. I feel this bill will help honor their pledge. If you don't support this bill for reasons of morality, then it is also a strong move for international relations and combating terrorism. To find out more about the positive aspects of this bill, please read the book "The End of Poverty: Economic Possibilities for Our Time" by Jeffrey D. Sachs. Please support this bill and take a stand for human rights!
Carol D
Amanda, my mom is 63 and legally disabled and ill.
She lives on $625 dollars a month and JUST her rent is $425 a month.
My mom has been denied HUD (50 dollars a month) because her 85 yr old mother lives with her.
My mom can't live alone, if she fell she would be stuck, but the HUD in her town does not give a sh*t and I'm sure nether do you.
Bob
Another cover where the pork will net 95% and the actual project will get nothing. Personally, I am sick to my stomach with the way Washington is destroying the country from within.
GET RID OF THEM ALL and we can start with a clean plate.
Justin
Carol D, I don't think Amanda was suggesting we help others at the expense of our own. First of all, your mother is obviously in a very distressing situation and I agree that more should be done to fix the system and help those like her. America, despite our debt, is a very wealthy nation. Currently we spend 28 times more on the military than official development assistance. 46% of the world's total military spending is by the US. If we diverted even a small portion of those funds to education, community development and aid (both domestic and foreign) we could help those in America who need assistance, address some of the root causes of terror (poor education and extreme poverty) which will make us safer and improve our reputation with the rest of the world, especially those we help. It is in our direct interest to make the world a more profitable, stable place and this can only be achieved when those countries suffering high rates of extreme poverty are helped.
Amanda
Carol D, please don't make assumptions about my concerns. I work at a State Mental Health Hospital and am surrounded by individuals who are poor and overlooked in society. I daily see their struggles and have compassion for their situations. I realize that poverty does exist in America. And I am all for trying to help our own citizens. But the scale of third world poverty is acutely different than what exists in our own country. Jeffrey Sachs (the head of the advisory body for the MDGs) shared in his book that increasing taxes on the wealthiest citizens could pay for America's promised 0.7% of the GDP. I just don't understand why people don't want to help others.
Shara
The United States alone spends close to 8 billion a year on cosmetics. Come on, people. Every three seconds a child dies from a preventable illness. The most common in children under the age of 5 is diarrhea through dehydration. Something has to be done. Of all the members of the UN, The U.S. and Somalia are the only countries that haven't agreed to ratify the Convention on Childrens Rights. If you ask me, our priorities are all wrong.
Ron
On April 15th, 2008 there will be protest marches in every major american city opposing this act of treason. Please join and/or organize marches in your city. Also check out youtube and search: april 15, 2008 for more information. Las Vegas will hold theirs at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign on the strip at 5pm. It is expected to be huge... 1st amendment guarantees you the right to redress and free speach. No ordinance, state law can supercede the us constitution. ACT NOW!
Alan
How can we in a nation of (more than) plenty not reach out to help others in the world? To not care for others, to not try to lift them out of poverty? There are no explicit costs associated with the bill; the actual funding would have to be by appropriation. The CBO estimates implementation of this bill would be less than $1M per year. This is NOT money to be given to the UN; the UN is not involved at all! It's the implementation of a UN Goal - to reduce poverty. It's the old story of teaching a person to fish vs giving them a fish to eat. Money would be put in PROGRAMS to help eliminate poverty (e.g., education, food animals to raise for food and to sell, etc.) Churches are doing that work already but they can't do it by themselves!
Michelle
I am amazed by this commentary. You guys are not willing to pay 4 cents to contribute to a coordinated effort by all developed countries to address massive inequalities around the world? Do you really think your lives are harder than the one billion people who live on less than $1/ day? The whole idea of the MDGs (which the US agreed to 8 years ago) is that the developed countries can spend so little to make such a huge difference across the globe. They have already made significant reductions in child mortality, malaria, HIV/AIDS mortality, maternal mortality, children's education and other areas. The only way to increase security is to reduce the extreme inequality across the globe.
Marshall
Michelle - if I knew for a fact that my 4 cents would go directly to a person in need I still would not support it because the purpose of my government - the US government - does not include forced charitable donation. If the UN would serious address the reasons such horrendous poverty exists in the world it might discover that income redistribution is not the answer.
Jon
OK so we go from a welfare country to a welfare world supported by our tax dollars? It will be abused even more than at home and will fund all types of people who do not need or or will use it against their own people-government-or us! If we must use our tax dollars, lets use it at home. Hey-build a wall!?
Tom 2 the Right
I have read both the S.2433 and the HR.1302. I cannot find where it mandates the .7% of GDP for thirteen years. if anyone can tell me where they are finding this information from a substantiated source, I would like to know. I too am against the Bill but I would like to have my ammunition in hand, not take word for it.
Pops
"Justin" We spend more on our military because our military protects countries like: Canada- Germany- France- South Korea- Japan - now Iraq. So wake up and smell the coffee. Maybe we just make it known to the world that we will not intervene in any war and see how long it is b4 one of these countries get jumped....
Pops
For Michelle- Do you know how many billions we have given to Africa already?? It does not help. Any and all money that goes to these "poverty" countries end up in the hands of the military and the corrupt politicians. I have an idea let's send the people guns and let them fight it out. I will throw in a buck for that!
Judie
Let's flush that Washington cesspool before they destroy us all. Carol D, I care about your mom. The War On Poverty hasn't worked here so I guess those idiots in Washington have to spread their socialistic ideas around the world. If any of you boneheads believe 4 cents is the cap on this - you have not lived long enough to see what crap that nonsense is...get real!
Marlene
Just say no to the Global Poverty Act. Its a bad bill.
cons_piracy_08
This is totally nuts. The only thing this bill would accomplish for Americans is that Michelle Obama might be proud of us again. Spread the word... http://geocities.com/cons_piracy_08/
Maggie
This bill must be stopped - We need to take care of the poor and hungry at home first! Just yesterday in church there was a plea from the Red Cross for non perishables to re-stock the local food pantries that try to assist the hungry in our area - most of which are children. The US should clean up its own house before offering aide to anyone else - we are not their mommies!
Denise Odier
This is just another bunch of bullsh** for the American people tohave to deal with. Why don't people like Obam just give up already and go back to where you came from and leave the USA alone. We do NOT want you in the Presidency. You are the worst of the worst and a mockery to American society.
Deanna Jones
I think we need to fix this country first. What about the American people? I am getting a little sick and tired of having to foot the bill for the rest of the world when I am having trouble keeping food on my table. I think the government has squandered enough of the taxpayers money. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! If the politicians want to help out those countries, so be it. Let them take the money out of THEIR bank accounts and send it to them. As for me and mine, WE ARE DONE WITH IT!
Rambo
It's time to lock and load people, take America BACK!
Tim
OMG! A Failing Gov't attempts to ........Fail some MORE!
Just stand there and pick your nose America. It's just Our Country that is going down the tubes.
Benjamin Franklin was RIGHT! Every 20 Years!
America will send it's young to Kill people in a foreign country who never did anything to them. But won't stand up and protect it's OWn COUNTRY from DESPOTS and Self-leagalised criminals!!
Tim
My fellow americans have become so Complacent and Brainwashed by Propaganda. they actually believe they have someone to vote for this election.
there's only 1 I know of that understand how serious of a predicament we are in and How Serious our US constitution & Billof rights have been eroded. That's RON PAUL! I'll write him in if I have too!
Any American that doesn't vote for RP, isn't an American. Go to China or somewhere they liked living under a socialist democracy.
because Socialist Democracies only end up 1 Way! >>Dictatorships!
And That's a Proven Historical FACT!
Tim
Yes America. You are now a >>>Socialist Democracy!
Brutarius
This is for Tom 2 the Right regarding the 0.7% figure.
There appears to be some dilly-dallying going on at the Millennium Project site regarding this recommendation. From a Google-cached version of http://www.millennium-project.org/millennium/ch-07.html (Millennium Project: Global Challenges Facing Humanity, Chapter 7, “Rich-Poor Gap — How can ethical market economies be encouraged to help reduce the gap between rich and poor?”)
dated April 12, 2008, we read:
“Richer nations should cut harmful agricultural subsidies, open their markets, and provide 0.7% of their GDP to aid poorer nations.”
But if you cut and paste that web address into your browser, you get a document where this has been excised.
Make of that what you will.
Rick
"It's time to lock and load people, take America BACK!"
I second that motion. The people are America, not the government. Abolish this government completely and start a new, VERY LIMITED government that must follow the constitution to the letter.
Larry
Let's see:
1(one) dollar tax increase per gallon - Permits UN to raise this any they feel like it.
Disarm all USA citizens - UN stated goal on more than one occassion.
If the UN had existed before WWII and the USA had agreed to their rules, We would all be under NAZI rule now.
Think about that!!
Mary
The part they don't tell you is that the UN's plan to achieve this reduction in poverty is by killing poor people thru abortion and contraception. This bill will just send boatloads of money to the abortion and pharmacutical industries. Jeff Sachs is completely without morals and should be quartered and drawn. This is nothing but eugenics and US sexual imperialism.
Stock Shotz
We should be talking about withdrawing from the U.N. not giving them more support. This is an insane bill. We need to be spending our money to increase national defense so that we don't see a war fought in our homeland. We have been interviewing political strategist on our show and they say we have more of this to come if the Democrats get elected. www.stockshotz.tv
Who is John Galt?
Are we or are we not a sovereign nation? The only good thing about the direction we are heading is the fact that if we continue down this path, I honestly believe there will be a revolution. This in no way resembles the America our Founding Fathers intended and fought and died for.
Lone Wolf
thats right who is john galt?. i also read somewhere that this bill is also meant to disarm Americans. i deffinatly will not stand for that. there would most likely be a revolution over that sh!t.
Walt
This congress are money junkies. They only view the American taxpayers as a way to get a hit. We're going bankrupt and their response to every world problem is to give more money. How about getting things squared away at home first? New Orleans is still a disaster area!
jukin
Why do democrats hate the middle class?
Two Elks
It's time America took care of her own. We can no longer afford to feed and be policeman to the world. We are broke! It's no longer " need help ? Dial 911 USA for a bail out" America first, others second..we have done more than our share to help others!
Disallusioned American
The US is already contributing more than all other nations combined, especially the paltry sum the U.N. gives, and Muslim nations give zero! We know for a fact that this bill will cost America $845 billion above and beyond what America already spends on global aid in the next thirteen years. See www.aim.org.
By allowing the UN to "tax" our GNP, the USA would be agreeing to a "one world government" with the power to raise our taxes higher, to disarm us, to control our health care, etc. We would be signing over our sovereigny, our liberty, our freedom. Between this plan and the North American Union, we are about to get in a crock pot of disaster!! Our laws and taxation will all be determined by the UN and the World Court.
Disallusioned American
OBAMA TO US: UN TO DISARM AMERICANS
This is just in from Sen. Coburn’s office. Obama has authored a bill, and it is now in the Senate, to give the UN .7% of our GNP to be used to feed hungry 3rd worlders, AND to use UN force to disarm you and me and all gun owners. No one in the media has brought this to the attention of the general sheeple out here.

US out of UN, UN out of US
To Alan and Michelle:
The UN is nothing but a scheme to transfer money from the pockets of poor people in rich countries into the pockets of rich people in poor countries.
Can't take it anymore
I am so sick of other people thinking they know how I should be spending my money better than I do. How these boo-hoo do gooders justify using the force of the US congress to TAKE my money while lamenting the unfairness of the lives of some other people in some other part of the world is BEYOND ME! Do an injustice to "cure" an injustice, how does that make sense? It is MY business whether I want to spend MY money on fast cars or stray animals or sustainable agriculture education or the search for alien life! Hellewwww people. MY money. I earned it. P.S. Americans might feel a little more charitable if we didn't end up paying upwards of 50% of our income to taxes after it is all said and done.
Rambo
Just let the UN try to take my weapons, we'll see how many are left standing before I fall, and I guarantee you, they'll be at least two platoons less!
Nathan
When the U.N. comes to confiscate Americas weapons, were going to hand cuff them to streetlight poles the way the Serbs did. cool!
Matthew
Quit complaining and stop feeding the government beast if you want to change things. Read "Cracking the Code" by Pete Hendrickson. www.losthorizons.com
In the movie "The Truman Show", Christoff was asked why Truman has never really tried to leave, Christoff answered, "We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented".
Bill
People, Don't give up your guns. Obama is going to try to disarm this country. Look what happened to countries that did. Keep you gun's at all costs.
Rebel
I'm tired of the U.S. being the primary financial support to the U.N., and yet ... have you noticed that whenever there is a disaster in another country, it is the US that jumps in and sends support and money and food ... when was the last time anyone saw those countries jumping in to help with disasters in the US??
It's time for the people to stand up and say NO, enough already!!
Ken
Wake up America! I am sad to see how stupid and groggy you are! Obama, Clinton and McCain all support Global government and want you to sleep so that they can steal your wallet, your guns and then ultimately . . . your lives.
Wake up and google Ron Paul.
jim
This bill contains more than relief, it also turns over control of the U.S. GNP (.7%), puts the U.N.in a postion to take our small arms, and places us under international laws
jim
You realize that this was tried after WWII, but was blocked. the backers of that bill said that it would not go away. they (who ever is really behind this)must think that we are more worried about prices going up to watch them come in and take our basic rights. I agree with ken "WAKE UP AMERICA". the next thing we know, there will be those light blue helmets on ever street corner asking for our papers.
Gerald Joseph
Even if the US were not in dire financial straits this would be a bad idea.
All the money on the planet will not help Africans as the population will only increase to match the food supply thats assuming the corrupt despots even allow the food to be distributed to those in need.
David K. M. Klaus
There's nothing wrong with opposing a bill, but tell the damned truth.
There's no .7% figure mentioned, there's no loss of soverignity in the bill, and there certainly is nothing about controlling small arms within the United States.
There's no virtue in lying.
Here's the Thomas page: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c110:2:./temp/~c110YkRhx4::
Juan Fidalgo
the .7% figure comes from the UN's Millenium project:
http://mirror.undp.org/unmillenniumproject/press/qa4_e.htm
jim
there was a story on rense that broke down the bill to the point that that they could not hide the TRUTH behind the bill, i looked for it this a.m. it's gone just.one question. is it a cover up?
jim
To Mr Klaus. I did tell the truth. I am not the only one who figured that out, just read some of the other post. If the U.N. is given any power here it will be the end of the U.S. I guess that you need to research some more. See just who we are dealing with. I hope that people start paying attention to whats happening or we are done for, look at the E.O's that the past few presidents have signed. detention camps, federalize police, food and gas rations, seperation of families, marshall law. go ahead and believe what you want, but, for me and mine we are armed, stocked up and ready to do what might be needed to survive.
Jeanne Mazurek
ANYTHING that even smacks of alliance with the UN is terrifying. We are, or used to be, a sovereign nation, under God, according to our Founding Fathers, and I have a feeling that most of them are doing 360's in their graves to see what the congress has done to our beautiful America. Kill this bill and do it with great glee ! ! !
Nathaniel
I can't see how this bill is a good idea, considering the US economy is already in trouble, and considering the rising national debt.
I was a bit confused by the posters mentioning firearms. After looking at some other discussions about this bill online, I found that they're referring to one of the parts of the UN Millenium Declaration that deals with restricting the trade of firearms.
From what I understand of the text of this bill, it doesn't include that.
Misfit4Peace
Wake Up and smell the Fascism and the Marxism...We are now waking up to a NEW WORLD ORDER...Obama..a CFR member, must have fun at the meetings..hooking up with other members who share his views.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4df1soW7Dho

Mike
Okay all you Liberal nut jobs...if you want to help the poor then for goodness sake donate, just don't bankrupt the country to do it. Don't tax me into poverty to do it. Take your cosmetic money and instead go help the poor, in fact do everyone a favor and join the Peace Corps and go help them yourself...just stop taking money from me and my family to do it...I can barely make rent as it is now. Stop robbing me!!!
Scott
How about everyone here submit a letter to your local newspaper in the opinion section and see how many actually getr printed. One of our biggest problems is the liberal media that controls the dissenimation of information. I agree with "US out of UN, UN out of US"!!!!!!!
Roger King
This is just a move toward world government and away from our soverenty. We help other countries with financial aid and pay more money to the UN than any other country in the world. I would much rather see the bill state how we expect the money we currently give to be used instead of allowing them to spend it as they like. Must of our money just goes to the corrupt politicians and not to the people that deserve it.
I scares me to have the UN which is currently anti American have power to take our wealth at will.
MaddogK

Lock and load folks, the revolution is coming.
Richard McVay
Give me a break!
Look at the cost analysis box at the top of the page.
This program would cost each American the astronomical sum of ONE penny per day!
And the program is aimed at the ONE BILLION people in the world making LESS than ONE dollar per day!
I was taught as a Christian to tithe 10% of my income for the poor!
Where are the "family values" of the Christian conservatives???
HYPOCRITS...!!!
Glenn
Take care of the Americans here at home first. Once all schools are fixed, staffed and student test scores are fixed; social programs removed/implimented to get people off of welfare and into the work place; laws are fixed to address the backlog and overfilling of our penal system......and many other things are fixed here at home, we don't need to be thowing our money overseas.
Glenn
In response to several comments posted:
Cost of the project is not the issue since America has already spent more than it generates.
America cannot govern the world - each country is responsible for their own people - we can assist their governments in making economic decisions. ( of course, since our economists can't figure out the accounting of our own budget, how will our suggestions be viewed)
Poverty is bad - helping people is good - anyone remember "Teach a man to fish....." - foriegn governments need to want to learn how to address their issues - just giving their people "fish" will not resolve the long term issue.
Aric
This could be the most idiotic bill of all time to be considered in Wasington DC. Who in their right mind would think that something like this could get more than a few HUNDRED dollars of aid to anyone out of the projected 845 billion? Is Obama trying to destroy this country?
John
I have read all the posts here. Wake up America, there is no difference in who gets voted in.
They are all eliteists, it is the past 30 years of stupid laws made by lawyers put into office by people voting very stupidly. This bill by Obama is just one more step to enslave the American people. The UN should really be called "the nations united against America'. I'm sorry but in the 1930's Rockefeller had a plan to dumb down the population thru the school system and it has been very very successful. It does not matter if you are a demo or a rep you better start writing to your congressman and tell them hell no on Obama's bill or in a few years you will be under UN control with no rights at, remember, the Un is against everything America wants, they all HATE us.
Eddie
I dont know where the 4 cents comes in, I have seen estamates stating to cover this cost would require .35 to $1.00 increase per gallon of gas. Also further into this bill you will find that it goes beyond giving money away, it would also strike at the 2nd amendment.
"In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that (U.N.) declaration commits nations to banning 'small arms and light weapons' and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention of Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Convention of the Rights of the Child," he said.
Those U.N. protocols would make U.S. law on issues ranging from the 2nd Amendment to energy usage and parental rights all subservient to United Nations whims.
Chris Walquist
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
This bill is not about the UN or about arms. It is about keeping the promise that we have freely and *repeatedly* made *beginning in 1970* (see http://www.globalissues.org/TradeRelated/Debt/USAid.asp) as a sovereign nation to help those dramatically less fortunate than us to become self-sustaining.
The United States is blessed with natural resources and historic good fortune beyond any before us. Of any nation on earth, we are by far the most able to give as we have been given to. Shamefully, although we should be the most generous, we are the most stingy when measured against our peers.
We have a historic and concrete opportunity to lift billions of people out of a brief and miserable existence. We spent up to 2% of GNP during the wildly successful Marshall Plan. The least we can do is give $0.01/person now to help spring the trap.
Roger
It's very simple. Until we as Americans can properly care for our own citizens the we have NO business throwing money at impoverished nations! You do-gooders who think we should do just that should rethink your position to help Americans first and if not waste your money by writing out your check to the U.N. Don't steal my money to further your misdirected idealogy.
Ronald C Nichols Jr.
I do believe there are individuals who have made comments out of total emotional ignorance that have been denoted above, Yes we are blessed here in his great country, but that blessing has come from the blood sweat and tears from a lot of hard working americans, not from a bunch socialist well wishers
that wish to take what very little I have left and give it away, life is not fair and that is the truth of the matter. cris walquest, amanda and a few others, do not live in reality, may god have mercy on your souls when the blue helmets come to take you away
if Obama gets a bullet before september, there are things that are going to happen that shake every american to their core and only then we will see who is left standing and folk you can' wait for others to save you and your family you must do it yourselves or perish
Chris Walquist
"Guns, Germs, and Steel" does a great job of showing that it takes blood/sweat/tears AND a lot of help from somewhere in order to rise from bare existence.
Not to belittle your situation Ronald, but I think you have more than you realize, that puts you 'way ahead of at least 3 billion people. You have electricity. You can read and write. You have time to consider and discuss issues at hand. You live in a free country with a stable currency. To go out on a limb a little, you likely have a car. You have good roads to drive it on. You have access to clean drinking water. You don't get malaria over and over.
If we wait until we're all set before giving anything, God WON'T have mercy on our souls. 0.7% is a small amount for us, and huge for the rest of the world.
Fred
I'm with that Neil feller....get out of the UN and get the UN out of the United States of America...tell Obama to spend his own money and not ours!!!
Samantha
The only way we will spread prosperity throughout the world is through technology, education and the kind of opportunity that can only come by getting government out of the way and letting people accumulate, keep and invest what they earn. No government program can ever achieve this by definition. My life does not belong to the government. No part of it or the fruits of it like my earnings belong to the State. That was the promise of America. It is a great pity that we have been made to forget it.
Samantha
Being willing to contribute to the uplift of others and being forced at gunpoint to contribute are very different things. The latter vile proposition deserves only contempt and armed defense against such naked aggression.
Dee
When will this stop, I agree that we should help people in need, but when we can afford to do so, not being forced to do so. And I think that we need to take care of our own people first.
Don
I am tired of all this commie/pinko crap socialist Dems are spewing. By God, get all the whiners of their dead butts and put them to work and they will see just what a liitle effort will bring them. I bet all the ignoramises who quite school early are primarily the ones who think WE must take care of THEM.
The above comments are for THIS country.
Now, how about the US taking care of all other nations where there is blight? Who in the hell does Osama Bama think he is??? Furthermore, who in the hell does all the absolutely stupid people who are supporting him think "THEY" are? Socialists want to give this country away, and they aren't trying to hide it either!!! How can any rational person back someone who is going to do everything in his presidential power to systematically dismantle our constitution rights, right before their very eyes? It is proof positive the hypnotic-effects of Nazism is alive and well over almost 70 years later. May God help us....
Dennis
These comments are depressing: so much hate. So many unexamined claims. All this bill says is that we should make a plan to deal with global poverty. The numbers people are quoting ($845 bn, .7 GNP) are made-up scare tactics. Go to the LOC site and read the bill yourself.
Does Jesus say to help the poor ONLY if they were born under your flag? Where is your humanity?
For shame.
Martha
This S.2433 would serve to place a great strain on the US economy in an effort to subsidize tyranny and state-run economies that are the procuring cause of the poverty. Stop the "Obamanation": VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Martin
If Obama becomes president, he will directly turn the United States away from its alliance with Israel, and thereby leave Israel defenseless against middle-east attack, and Israel will be destroyed.
Anne
Senator Obama's S.2433 will cripple the US economy sufficiently to where the US itself may become a third-world nation, united with the world, all under Allah.
Nancy
For Pete's sake, go to the the horses mouth and read the Bill for yourself. How stupid are we anyway. More political propaganda. Our wonderful President signed on to this Act in 2005. Everything else is supposition
Flick
Amanda, it's nice that you want to help the poor in other countries, but please do it on your own dime rather than asking your representatives in government to steal my money to pay for what you want. That's socialism--the idea that government (or "others") knows better how to spend my money than I do. Last I checked, we're supposed to be a republic.
I have a deal for you. You don't have your representatives steal my money to pay for your pet projects and I won't have my representatives steal your money to pay for mine. :-)
Jen
Perhaps we could keep the UN out of our business and take care of the sick and needy in OUR country, seems everyone forgets the Americans living in poverty. Also-in this bill they have slipped in this "The U.S. would be required to surrender some of its sovereignty over foreign aid by putting it under UN control. The bill would force the U.S. to sign onto the U.N.'s Millennium Declaration, which would commit us not only to "banning small arms and light weapons" but also to adhere to the International Criminal Court Treaty and the Kyoto Protocol." (cited from http://www.fourwinds10.com/siterun_data/government/united_nations/news.php?... )

This bill will NOT solve the problem of global poverty. Warlords and corrupt governments prevent aid from getting to those who need it. If the UN (and yes they would oversee it distribution, don't kid yourself otherwise) where serious about aid for countries in need they should look at their own house for these funds rather than looking for a hand out from the US. Sorry wealth redistribution is not the answer.
Bart
I agree this bill does no good for the impoverished. Obama does not put this country first as a Senator nor Presidential hopeful.
The government corruption within these poor countries needs to be corrected so that the people can enjoy a healthy productive nation. Pouring money into it does nothing if it is stolen by thier own govts.
reminds me of this one (America)
Our origninal founding fathers had it right when they created a free republic. Too bad it went sour by controlling banksters, lawyers, politicians, illuminatti, etc.
But hope is not lost. Instead of contacting your congressmen on this bill, contact the supreme court and ask why the hold up on NESARA (google it or check the main site nesara.us)
This will do more for global poverty than anything else if you understand Americans are probably the most generous people on earth (that is when the choice to give is their own choice instead of by tax transfer or wealth distribution)

This is not good. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO AND GO VIRAL WITH IT! OBAMA IS NOT A REAL AMERICAN & McCAIN ISN'T EITHER. They are both traitors like Bush:

Some people blow my mind...
1. Increasing taxes on the rich is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. (Try reading it.)
2. Taking from the rich and giving to the poor is SOCIALIST.
3. Letting American's decide what to do with their own hard-earned money is LIBERTY.
If government would get their hands out of our pocketbooks & out of our lives then we would come together & take care of ALL PEOPLE. THAT would make us a more peaceful nation & improve foreign relations. How much of that $.04 will be used to fund the bureaucracy needed to sort out who gets what on a global scale? Or, if they would let me keep (all of) my money, I could choose to donate through private charities who keep public records & can prove that 95% of my money will go directly to help those in need. Don't underestimate those of us who are opposed to this horrible bill. It's not that we don't want to help others, it's just that we don't want the government controlling our lives. You can always move to China if you'd like.
Gina
Dennis,
Jesus also wants us to be good stewards of our money. That would include not spending money we don't have. Have you checked the national debt clock lately? WE DON'T HAVE IT!! So, who would we have to borrow money from that we must pay back with exhorbitant interest? I guess we could always have the FED print more money but the value of our dollar would drop even more, leaving us with less to give to charity and less to take care of ourselves, resulting in us needing more from our government who will have to borrow from other countries to take care of us or print more which would make us even poorer...OR, they could give us ALL of our money and we can portion it according to our own consciences. There's an idea!
Aleja
I think that we should think about others and not just ourselves!! i know that sounds all goodie-two shoes and stuff but i think we should come together as a nation and help others around us. Even thoungh Mike says he cant even pay his pwn bills then i think the some of us that can, should help out. And if i were an adult, yeah i'd proly have trouble too but think about others and how much they need that money more than you!!! :)
Missy
What form of Government takes from the rich and re-distributes to the rest of the world? Marxism or Communism come to mind.
We cannot afford this bill. I realize that there are people starving in other parts of the world, but charity starts at home. How long can we afford all these idiots that we have elected to office? I'll be damned if I give one red cent of my money to the UN. I can only hope that one day someone throws them out of the US. Why donate to countries where the tyrants that run the country keep the money in their pockets and the people continue to starve? Get real America, we can't afford this bill and everyone needs to write their senators and congressmen to tell them so.
I pray this country wakes up before it is too late.
Bill
This is one more attempt to co-opt American independence. If this bill becomes part of US legislation the door will have been opened allowing for more UN pressure to up the contribution each year.
Once that happens look for more UN control of world affairs and less sovereignty for the USA.
This is all part of a scheme for a global world government.
This legislation should be defeated. We are the most generous nation in the world. No need to legislate what we already give out of the goodness of our hearts.
Daniel A. Roberts
I see this as an act of treason . now is the time to replenish the tree of freedom. For if we do not we shall and will lose our LIFE , LIBERTY & FREEDOM as we know it . NOW is the time to take action . iF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR FELLOW COUNTRYMAN OR WOMAN YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR THIS LUNATIC .
Sincerely
S.C.P.O. Daniel A. Roberts U.S.N. Ret.

If you are so concerned about others, send all your disposable income, yes, the money you spend on wine and cheese, to them and let the rest of us take care of our families and our countries.

All of the liberals think only the government can fix a problem and therefor the "rich should pay". We are already the most giving nation on Earth and would do more if the government didn't tax us so much and only divvy out pennies on the dollar we pay into the system.
