I haven't had health insurance for 5 years and this is the only answer to my problems with coverage. Support of H.R. 676 is the main issue for my vote in the 2008 election.
Chris Brudy
The rest of the world is laughing at us. Let's cover everybody, and save a few trillion dollars while we're at it.
Caleb
There is a grassroots movement in Oregon called "we can do better" which is advocating just such a system of single-payer universal health care. There has been a groundswell of support in the last few years as prices skyrocket and service declines.
Stephen A. Wider
This would be Wonderful if Conyers and Kucinich can get it through! We need this SO Badly, and so do Corporations in the U.S. It will even create new jobs when companies save Millions from not paying for Health Care.
DO It NOW!
Steve
David Berg!
It's absolutely abhorent for corporations (HMOs) to see people's misery as a giant economic engine. We need true helthcare reform now!, we need this bill.
jman1863
My fellow American’s we need this bill to become law, big money will stop at nothing to defeat this bill from becoming law in the United States. The money grubbing HMO’s to date has been very successful in their fear propaganda to keep us all quite in our seats. We must all stand up together and have our voices heard as it is the only way that we are going to overcome the privatization of healthcare in this country. Healthcare for profit will most always stand between a life or a death of a human being. Insured people (that’s includes me) if you think that this present state of healthcare here in the USA will not affect you; better read the “fine print” in your healthcare policy. God forbid you have a terrible accident or get gravely ill. It’s been said that social medicine will never work here in the good ole USA. Well to that I say take a good solid look at our active duty military hospitals as well as our VA (Veterans Administration) healthcare system.

We, as a nation, need to stand up against the tyrannical capitalists controlling our lives, and let them know, that "We the people" have had enough of their games, and will be taking our nation back. Your vote does count when it is done in numbers! Gather your family, friends, neighbors and communities together. We can do it! Write or call your senators and congressional representatives! We,as a nation hold the power in our hands! Use it! If you ignore this now, you may, God forbid, be the next victim of a canceled insurance policy. If you think socialized medicine will not work in this country, do your homework. Discover the truth.
Dennis
So why has there been no action on this bill since 2/2/07? We all need to contact our reps and the media and push for answers as to why nothing is moving on this bill. Aren't our representatives getting paid to do a job? THEN DO IT NOW!!!
Brian
On behalf of my family and everyone I know I beg and pray for you to support the HR 676 bill. I and everyone I know will pay high taxes to have free health insurance and stop having insurance companies play "GOD" with our lifes. I only have one "GOD" and it is not an insurance company. So I pray that you hear us and please support this bill, If my tax dollors can pay for the postoffice, police department, fire department then why not health care?
GCMD
I am an insured private emergency physician and i strongly support 676.
We are the last developed country without universal coverage.
Taiwan's NHI program spends $675/person/yr with the same free-market economy.
We spend ~$4300/person/yr with our current system.
Rich
I'm sure that the US could of had a very good universal health system for the price we paid for the fabricated set of lies that let us go into Iraq. I also like the statement made by John Edwards that if elected & a health plan is not in effect within 1 year he would try to halt the goverment workers health plan. Lets see how quickly "our representatives" can move when they have to pay for their own benefits & can't get it due to being too fat (both weight wise & from graft, corruption & payoffs from special interest groups) or pre-existing conditions.
PaulJL
It's been said that we don't need universal health care, but a "market based system." Just what do you think we have right now? This market based system wrings money from from the public while curing almost nothing. We need single payor and we need it yesterday!
Brenda
I am a single mom who has had breast cancer and had to file bankruptcy last week. I have a hard time paying my co pays and getting my medicine. I do belong to the Rx script and Wal Mart but not everything is covered. I think it is terrible that we have to deal with such stress. I've worked since I was in my early teens. Now I'm 51 and stressed out. I am in fear of being homeless without a way to pay for my medicine or Highmark payments
andrea riveros
As american citizens we have the right to get proper medical attention when needed, and full coverage of any of our medical costs. It is a reality in many other countries around the world, why in the richest country we are denied a basic service; medical care?
Russell
I also had to file bankruptcy for charges run up for diagnostic test, and it tuned out that I didn't even need them. The doctors, testing, and all was over $25,000, and my employer had no insurance plan. They said they though I had a liver problem, and at the end of it all, give me a prescription for Nexium.
John
i so not support HR 676 bill, only because its jsut another tax we are going to have to pay the government. to be homest, i feel bad for these people living under the subsistence level, but i myself am right there. i so not support this bill.
P.S. i also think other people not only the poor, but greedy can get this health care with out paying, and they are not even poor, these people are living above the general level, and they are just haveing to pay less. i am not saying most people are going to try this but i just dont think its a good idea to pass this bill.
Paul
To John:
Just another tax? How could you ever want to pay the outrageous insurance bills for the rest of your life, only to find out that, they might not even pay like they are supposed to? How could you think that is better than a tax, that would cost way less than what your probably paying now for insurance? I just can't comprehend that way of thinking. An insurance company tried to force my wife to leave the hospital a day early after her C-section. A nurse told us that what they were doing was illegal. We called them and told them that, and then they denied the entire thing. Thats just one of the many horrible encounters we've had with insurance companies. This bill is a must, if our country is ever to free ourselves from these bureaucratic tyrants who rule our health care system and sentence innocent people to death every day just to make a dollar. We are a republican, but that doesn't matter, this bill is about our rights as Americans. We will support HR676.
linda
I just saw "Sicko" and am driven to tears w/the stories. Shame on our country, from the president on down for allowing to go on for all these years. I am for the extra tax and HR676. My daughter is type 1 diabetic, barely works due to complications and will lose our family plan coverage Jan. 1,2008. We are not able to pay for all the expenses related to this desease, do we throw away our ill? compared to other (smaller and less advanced than we are) countries? Wake up America? Vote and let government fix this mess they have have let grow and play God.
LaNette
Our government officials must know how badly people are suffering and should be ashamed of themselves for not doing something to end this tragic problem. I wonder if anything will ever happen on this issue!
Jack
At 28 years old and having worked since I was sixteen I have never had health insurance from an employer. The closest thing was when one of my bosses brought in some guy from Aflac to try to sell us supplementary "insurance". If I get hurt outside of work or get sick it all comes tumbling down. I am grateful for my health but terrified of what could happen to me and my family should I fall ill. How people can be against this mystifies me, especially those on the right being "Christians" who would deny their fellow human beings the right to live healthy lives. Is our current system in tune with Jesus' teachings? This has gone on long enough and too many people have lost too much so that these faceless parasitic insurance companies can pull a profit. I have and will continue to write my Congressman and Senator to tell them that I support HR 676.
Brenton
Support this bill and get it through now. Why are we waiting?
Thomas Diggs
We need this for everyone. What is the problem? Why don't we have it aready?
Denise
Watch Michael Moore's movie Sicko and you will want to fly to Washington to see that this bill passes.
Rebecca F Gutberlet
We need this bill passed so bad! I work for the state of NC and have insurance but my son and husband have to have private insurance because the state plan is still too expensive! We as Americans have to take care of our own! The rest of the world is just laughing at us! We are pathetic as human beings if we can't take care of our fellow Americans!
Steve
I live in the state where UnitedHealth Group is headquartered. UHG is a shining example of how greed has adversely affected the healthcare industry. The ex CEO William McGuire (shown briefly in the movie "Sicko") along with a few select executives and board members have used the company as their own personal ATM machine. Despite being convicted of securities violations (stock option back dating) these people will walk away with million$. The time is now to put a stop to the insanity and inefficiency of the HMO business model. Write your elected representatives and insist on their support for HR 676. HR 676 is an important piece of legislation that ensures the health of our citizens and future prosperity of our country.
Rick Higgins
Wake up America the citizens of this country need HR 676 to become law!
For those politicians that line their pockets with hush money from the HMO corps then may God forgive you for selling your soul, you were put in the office by the people for the people.
Dr. Paul McKenna, D.C.
As one of the many fine health practitioners in this great country, I strongly support the passing of HR 676. It's about time our country focuses our attention on the care of all of our sick, not just "avoiding getting sick" care we are currently doing! Insuring everyone will assure that all our health practitioners will finally be able to work together to provide all citizens with the best health care possible, rather than focusing much of their attention on how to have their services be affordable! Think about it. If this isn't clear, watch "Sicko" and envision what this country could be like if we were all on the same page on this topic!
Now change is often times scary, because together we must face the unknown. But the irony is that change is also where the solutions lie to all of our current problems. Just think what peace of mind would come for us all knowing that our health was taken care of at a very basic level. Priceless!!
Brunno
If this bill should happen to become law (fat chance), we would still be far behind Cuba and France and Canada because H.R. 676 does not contain any language concerning comprehensive dental care. I'm afraid that Congress will never get the required courage it needs to make an effort to catch up with the rest of the industrialized world regarding Universal Health Care. The payola that our Senators and Representatives in Washington receive from the health care industry and prescription drug industry are simply too lucrative for them to give up. Most in Congress are bought and paid for and are beyond hope of ever having any honor and integrity. If you are waiting and hoping for H.R. 676, don't hold your breath!
Stan
Filling one of my 97 year old mother's prescriptions cost $700.00, despite belonging to Kaiser Permanente. Apparently she exceeded the amount of money she was allowed for her meds. She's on Social Security and in an assisted living arrangement. We, as a country, sure look out for our elders!
Tom
As we saw with Medicare part D, this bill, even if passed will not cover everything. Private insurance will still likely supplement copays and deductibles
Medicare Supplement. The dollars are simply not there for full coverage.
Laurie
I am still not sure if I am for or against this universal healthcare program. What do you all think of the free education our kids are receiving? Shouldn't we all get "free" health care too?
