To the bureaucrats in DC- the Burt Lake Band, not withstanding, were a sovereign before our government did a monumental injustice to them, We can't give them back what was taken or done to them, but it is time to start making ammends. Stop dillydallying and do what is right- Recognize this tribe federally and compensate them!!!

I am an economic development professional for 40 years in northern Michigan I have developed many projects worth millions of dollars, including fifteen personal projects in four communities worth over $2 million.
I commend the Burt Lake Band for directing their efforts towards developing alternative energy and related projects, beacuse these projects will fill a need in our country for energy independence and create many needed jobs.
I personally know many members of this tribe, and I want our country to pay back these people for the many injustices done them through various governmental officials and their friends. You may contact me by my email menterprises@netonecom.net

This should be a no brainer. The Federal Government needs to get off its rear and do something. This would be a great start, as it should have been done long ago.

Please write your local Congressman,
Please vote YES on H.R. 1575, The Burt Lake Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Reaffirmation Act.
In October of 1900 the local sheriff and his deputies burned Indian Village on Burt Lake in a land grab from the Indians.
The decedents of these Indians have lived in the Burt Lake area ever since and deserve to be Federally recognized as a tribe.

My great-great grandmother was living on Mantasee when the white men came. I know that the tribe was there and the US Government needs to make amends to the tribes living in the area. Please do the right thing and pass the bill to recognize the tribe.
John
Ancestors of these people
have lived there for hundreds of
years.
deb
It is well past time to make amends for this, another shameful example of how "our" government wronged the native peoples of this country.
jamie
Don't deny us the right to be native american we were here then and now
