As National Oregon-California Trails Association Mapping Chair and Idaho's Trails Preservation Officer I have been researching and mapping the Goodale's Cutoff, one of the trails covered in this bill, and I can say it was an important historic trail and well used by emigrants. It also set a standard and route for travel in parts of Idaho and Oregon for 4 decades! A volumnous book on the Cutoff and the history of Tim Goodale is forthcoming. JWMc

America needs to honor the estimated 350,000 emigrants who with considerable hardship traversed half of our continent to settle the West and effectively join it to the eastern half. Faint traces of their routes are all that remain of this historical migration and need to be preserved in all their variants. Please, support the bill S.580.
