When will our government wake up and start protecting our borders. How many more Fort Dix incidents do we need to have before something gets done to protect Americans? Why are we so worried about protecting everyone elses rights but our own???

William Whitman Jr

I think utilizing the resources of the Civil Air Patrol is a great idea until this nation has enough border patrol agents in place and construction of the 700 mile wall gets underway. I have been to AZ border several times in the last 2 years and the situation is grave there. The air and ground training missions that CAP continually execute has proven that the USAF Auxiliary are a proven force that will benefit true homeland security. CAP is ready to answer the call.

Mark McKibben

The Civil Air Patrol is an extremely cost-effective organization and well-suited to support HLS missions. CAP should be viewed as a "force multiplier" that will free up Border Patrol and law enforcement agencies and enhance their ability to detect and thwart the bad guys. We should all support this bill.

Randy Jeane

It is about time CAP is recognized as an untapped valuable resouce. This volunteer force of aircrews and ground team members can fill in the gaps at a significantly lower cost. Give the Civil Air Patrol a chance and see how today, as in WWII, it can protect America.

K C

Its about time to put the brave dedicated volunteers of the United States Civil Air Patrol with the Department of Homeland Security to protect our country immediately and help secure our borders. The US Civil Air Patrol should also be armed again as they were in World War 2. We should fully and properly equipped the US Civil Air patrol and its volunteers with the best equipment so they can accomplish their important national security missions in protecting the homeland from terrorists, domestic and foreign ones.

Willie Lee

Why is it taking this long to pass such a good bill that helps the US Civil Air Patrol to protect our borders and help combat terrorism, the United States Civil Air Patrol are dedicated patriotic volunteers of America risking their lives to protect our country and they are doing it without pay. Pass this important bill now to help protect the USA today, because tomorrow may be too late !

Mark

It would be a return to USCAP roots to protect the homeland in a time of war.

1st Lt John M. Potter, CAP

This is a great thing. Too often people underestimate the capabilities and resources of the Civil Air Patrol.

John Morgan

CAP is the best use of tax payer funds to help support homeland security issues. The CAP has its roots in this critical function. The 55,000 volunteer professionals of CAP stand ready to serve.

Dave

I am glad to see the US Congress is seeing the inncreadable ability of the CAP and what they are capable of. If you added up the years of experiance in SAR and HS work it would be a monumental amount of talent not to take advantage of

Jose Ortega

The situation in Mexico is very, very, grave. Drawing doen the troops on the border is not a good thing at this time. If the CAP is used as AN AIR ASSET ONLY, then this makes a lot of sense. Arming them makes NO sense. It would be best if they carried BP Officers on each flight.

Earl Ma

What are they going to do the 1st time the Zetas fire a SAM at their Cessna? When someone sabotages their engine? When some idiot buzzes a bunch of illegals and acts like a vigilante? This isn't "WWII" and these guys aren't hunting U-Boats, let 'em stick with SAR and let REAL police do this work!

Jill Porter

The Drug Dealers aren't STUPID, shooting down a CAP Cessna would only get them more grief than they could handle! Sure, put the planes under guard and carry a Cop on each flight - the CAP flies, the Cop polices and the taxpayers come out ahead! It's cheaper than the drain Illegals place on our society, TRUST ME - I work in a Hospital Emergency Room!!

Richard Tibadeaux

I'm 87, and in WWII I was a Coast Guard Reservist. We patrolled in Corpus Christi and other places near the border and had no problems. The CAP and CGAUX are about all that is left of American's serving just because it is the right thing to do. 'Dust 'em off, give them the mission and stand back, they'll get it done.

John

I have worked with the CAP both as a police officer and as an Emergency Management Director. They are dedicated, professional, and an incredible asset in both the air AND on the ground. They would be PERFECT to help in the air on the border, and in Comm or as "eyeballs" in a secure environment (Camera watching). This bill makes sense, unlike a lot of "Homeland Security" Ratholes we have right now.

Capt. J Pizzo, CAP

We're ready to roll. Give us a mission and we'll get it done. Contact your senator and urge them to support this bill. We've got 56,000 trained volunteers and the largest fleet of single engine aircraft in the world. It's costs the government $100 an hour to fly our planes. Compare that to the Helos used by BP and Law Enforcement. Give us the ball!

Doug

Earl Ma:
I really dont think we have to worry about SAM's. Come on. Maybe small arms fire, but I don't know a single CAP member who would not fly anyway. These are some brave volunteers, many former Military/Police. There's no need to arm them. CAP is the eyes. Law Enforcement can take it from there. Did you know CAP already flies counter drug missions all over the US? Never heard of any "Vigilantes" there, either. Take a deep breath.

JC

CAP is a well trained volunteer organization that would be a great asset to our security at a sale price. You could never beat the dollars per hour they provide to this country. All members are dedicated patriotic people who offer their services and skills to help fellow americans.

CJ

This sounds like a wonderfully efficient use of these unpaid volunteers. It's great that our government is recognizing that civilian organizations such as this cab play an integral role in our nation's security.

Bob

CAP? Maybe back in 1941, but in 2008 it's a farce to think CAP could protect peanuts from a hungry squirrel, let alone our nation. As an air asset, CAP is fine, provided it's during the weekends when our flying is at peak, and providing aircrews aren't busy playing with the GPS, Radios, or generally blabbering.

Bill Lee

Congress needs to pass this bill right away and President Bush needs to sign it now before he leaves office in 4 months ! Why is it taking so long to protect our borders and US citizens when we have the Civil Air Patrol ready to go and protect the USA yesterday. The government complains about not enough money and resources and yet the Civil Air Patrol is ready but stuck with the slow moving bureaucracy of Washington DC, while illegals and international criminals including terrorists are slipping into the US thru Mexico.Start arming the Civil Air Patrol now as 70% are already ex military and current law enforcement officers.

Sam Roberts

"Start arming the Civil Air Patrol.." Are you insane? CAP flies some of the oldest airplanes with some ofthe most mediocre maintenance, generally flown by some of the oldest and most mediocre pilots around.

Bob Tarantino

Why is it taking this long to get this important bill HR1333 to pass ? At this slow rate the next president of the United States either McCain or Obama will have to sign this bill into law.
Is Congress forgetting that every day we wait is another day some more criminal aliens or foreign enemies entering our weakly enforced borders ?

Bob D Kirby

there are som real IDIOTs making comments here. They are true ARMCHAIR Generals. CAP has a distinguished 70 years history of serving America. Over 800 air medals in WW2. And over 50 CAP members killed in the line of Duty simce 1942.
