SCORE certainly needs revamping. The current set-up does not help entrepreneurs with new, innovative ideas and who believe in and are passionate about their ideas and plans. My experience with SCORE retirees in Bridgeport, CT was abominable. The "counselor" discouraged me, saying I was "too creative," and too "passionate about my idea." But without passion where would we be? Retiree voluntees aren't what we need. Give us people with today's experience and skills in small business and who understand today, not yesteryear. I'm in my my late fifties, planning to start a business and these guys (there are no women in the Bridgeport, CT SCORE office) are arrogant, close minded and behave as though they are still running things in corporate America. They have no vision, are closed to innovation and are downright condescending, yet the have no knowledge beyond yours. They turn would be business people off and send them packing. SCORE as it stands is a waste of taxpayer dollars.
