Bob -- I've written my Congressman, John Campbell, 48th District serving southern Orange County, California, requesting his support and outlying the unfairness of the GPO and WEP and he (his staff) basically told me to pound sand. They said it would cost too much and that he has no intention of supporting either S206 or HR 82. Guess who I'm NOT voting for....

If the GPO and WEP affected mostly men and especially those in politics...the Fairness Act of 2007 would have already been passed. I have already lost 20 pounds and still sick over the UNFAIRNESS this issue is doing to me, others and did to those who have died already. Father forgive them for they know not what they do....

I am wondering if anyone knows the answer to this? A man in his 60's that remarried at 55 and has 2 children under the age of 10. His work involves under 20 years in social security contributing jobs and some in a state system non-social security job. If he were to pass away, would his young children be covered by social security until they were 18 like people's children who have been employed by social security paying jobs? Do these state retirement systems cover children> (other than just the money left to beneficiary)?...

Bob - WE know why you're upset
but hang in there.

Judy- from Missouri - There is no
point in organizing too early for
passage of S. 206 or HR 82. Our
Congress people and the general public are focusing on VP candidates. WE will come on strong
in late September thru election
day. Banners, signs, " Pass the
Social Security Fairness Bill".
We should be vocal at the candidates rallies, etc keeping
this issue foremost in their minds.
Everyone on this message board is
angry and frustrated..rightly so.
September/ October is just around
the corner. Keep the faith ! Stay
positive......

MaryB., you don;t know what you are talking about. I don't get any post health care benefits from my police job ans so what if I get a COLA increase. I earned it just like anyone who receives a pension from private industry who gets a big COLA deserves it. You're thinking is warped. I served in the USMC and paid SS as well at other jobs pre police job.I laid my lire on the line fro 30 years. Now I'm ready to retire and I am told my SS will be reduced by 60%. I was always a loyal patriot but this SUCKS especially when the illegal aliens drain our governmentr of services costing billions.I guess I did it the wrong way. Should have grown up and got on welfare and hung out wiht the illegal aliens to find out how to mooch off of the government....

I am in the same boat as many of you are. I spent 30 years in the SS system and then went into teaching. I'm lucky enough to have a private pension in addition to my California retirement benefits. However, the present system is probably going to cause me to leave teaching befor retirement and pursue a job that is covered by SS so that my offset is very not as great. Two things should be gained from this experience: 1. You must set aside additional funds for retirement; 2. Privatization with accounts that are yours(as opposed to the way the funds are presently handled), would have eliminated this problem. What you put, you get back plus the growth....

Hang in there everybody. Yes, frustration is high and building
everyday. Stay calm. We will organize in Sept./ Oct. in
the 14-15 states where people are
directly hit by GPO/WEP. We will
make ourselves heard leading up
to the November election. There
must be 300,000 -500,000 people in
these states affected by GPO/WEP.
The candidates will have to address
this issue if THEY WANT OUR VOTES !
"OUR VOTES"...could be the difference in a close election !
Stay committed to the cause !!

I retired from County of Los Angeles in 1996. As I was not eligible for survivors benefits from my husband's social security, I returned to work for the California State University system. I am paying the maximun for medicare coverage. The GPO/WEP
provisions are so unfair. I will qualify for my own Social Security next year, but will not be able to receive benefits due to these provisions. This is discrimination for those of us who choose public service as their careers....

This coment is for Josh, which tree to you fall from, you must have had a bad fall. Social Secrity is not for lazy people, I know many people who go to work every day some have to leave home to work. They are paying for social, and some will depend on this alone for care when they retire. You must be crazy to make a statement like that....

I am a retired police officer. I have been working at a job for 14 years paying social security. I also paid social security during my enlistment in the U.S. Navy. Its to bad I am penalized by the Windfall provision. I also see that AARP does not support H.R. 82/S 206. I am no longer a member of AARP. One last thing that really bothers me is the social security payments to non-citizens, who never paid social security. Can't believe any congressman, or any political figure can't see the problem.

Social Security is for people who are lazy. If the disabled, survivors, or the elderly want good benefits they should find themselves a job like everyone else. Social Security is the cause of the falling economy and the US dollar. Tell your senator to oppose this bill and put a stop to Social Security. America would be better off if we didn't have Social Security in the first place....

fyi: thought I would let everyone know I just hung up from calling Senator Kerrys office. I was referred to Senator Baccus' office. I called his office. I was told several things - #1, the bill was sent to the finance committee. I stated "I thought that occurred about a year ago" The person I was talking to said "yes" that was OLD info. and then went on to say that the bill is still sitting in committee and that she could not see that any action was scheduled at this time. I requested that it be moved out of committee and to the Senate floor for debate. She told me that I need to keep calling/writing my local reps. Feel like I was led around in a circle. Back to more calls and letters....

Dear K Brown. Why not call the Congressional Switchboard at 202/224-3121 and ask for Sen. Kerry's office. Ask the clerk what's happening w/S.206. Then say you support the Social Security Fairness Act of 2007 and request that Sen. Kerry move the bill out of committee and on to the Senate floor for debate. You'll be asked your name and where you’re from. Then, call the number again and ask for the office of Congressman McNulty. Ask what happening w/H.R.82. Then say you support the Social Security Fairness Act of 2007 and request that Rep. McNulty move the bill out of committee and on to the House floor for debate. You'll be feeling pretty good by now so call the number again and again asking to be connected to each member of congress for YOUR state and ask them “what are you doing to move The Social Security Fairness Act 0f 2007 out of committee and onto the floor for debate?...

I can repeat the sentiments of the majority of what I have just read on these pages. I am retired Fed. My spouse paid into the SS system. He passed away unexpectedly and because I am retired under the CSRS system I receive only $9.00 per month surv. benefit. I want to know what is going on NOW. Are these bills still sitting in Committee ??? and when is this going to go forward. I have wrote letter(s) to my appropriate congressman and the responses I get is to tell me they support the proposals and that they are now in committees for further review (I ALREADY KNOW THAT). I am tired of hearing 3 mo/6 mo/2 yr old news. Something needs to happen to force these issues forward NOW. We need some POSITIVE results. I also paid in to the SS system besides being a fed CSRS retiree but cannot collect a penny....
