I began my educational journey in 1996 and I haven't yet stopped. I have an A.S. and B.S. in Fire Science, M.A. in Public Adm., M.S. in Occupational Safety and Health, and currently working on a Doctorate in Bus. Adm. Had this bill been around earlier I would have certainly taken advantage of it. I have been a paramedic for 2 years now, and this would help me so much! We all know that we do this job for the love of the job, not the money- and this would put alot of minds at ease. On the IAFF web Site it said all federal. Also, on here it states that 78% have pursued higher education which could mean just one class taken! I wonder what the average higher education debt it for firefighters for both; All federal loans or just Perkins loans. (?) ALSO I read on the IAFF site that this is only for firefighters who have been firefighting and paying back loans simultaneously for 10 years. It sounds to me like this bill helps VERY few fighters in the end with tiny balances left on their loans!
