Last year I met an English-speaking Mexican woman who lived in Anaheim. She had five children. She had never been married. She had never had a job. She had never been homeless. She had never been separated from her children. She was extremely proud of being at-home mother, apparently one of the 40 (?) million chosen few who have been coming to the United States in droves since 1985. They should build a prison in Tiajuana with a childcare facility for the their children under 13 and deport all illegal aliens to it to await the outcome of their INS hearing. The only exceptions should be parents with children currently enrolled in our high schools....

Going after the employers is the best enforcement tool. But it should not be limited to the companies but should also include fines and jail time CEOs, CFOs, and Owners.

After noticing small camps of what appears to be illegals camped near oil field drilling and production sites, I agree that companies must be held accountable....

Matt - Why do you say the following? I read those sections, and it seems only prudent to give border patrol personnnel the equipment they need...You: "Might be a good law, but I am not in anyway in favor of section 102 or 103, these sections are really, really bad for americans, make sure you read them the rest of the bill seems viable"
I'm missing what prompted you to reject these 2 sections....

All this hate. All this venom. All this acrimony. And for what? The "illegal" in "illegal immigration" is, after all, only a misdemeanor. That's right, a misdemeanor. Like a speeding ticket.

I'll bet the majority of mean-spirited racists replying here have broken the speed limit time and time again. Indeed, you've probably broken the law, willing to risk the insignificant consequences (at least in part) for the same reason immigrants take that risk: Years of law enforcement looking the other way because it's just not a big deal, and light punishment when they are caught (like pleading "faulty equipment"). A misdemeanor.

You all act like immigrants coming "misdemeanorly" into this country for a better life for their families is a stone cold felony that should be punishable by death. Probably you'd like it to be by stoning . . . especially if you could throw some. Taliban, anyone?

For shame....

I have seen total abuse of fake SSN and what they claim as dependents on taxes. More astonishing is they can get a refund. Not to mention all the free(American paid) medical and food. Stop wasting paper/stamps....send agents out for random checks. This will catch illegal immigrants and employers both! Just a thought...

About the only "good" argument against the bill is the one about the 12 million "errors" in the database:

Those are 12.7 million instances of ILLEGALS using SSNs of others ILLEGALLY. I've SEEN no-match letters, and have heard the explanations from the SSA: "This employee has an SSN of an 8-year old girl in another state." So the illegal runs off to get ANOTHER social security card with ANOTHER fraudulent SSN, and the SSA takes another year to send A DIFFERENT NO MATCH LETTER.

This is how you FIX the errors: Make the person using the number illegally GO HOME....

H.R. 4088 is a Trojan Horse. It contains much of the same language as other immigration (amnesty bills) of the last two years. It calls for a virtual fence, not only along the Mexican border but around the international and maritime borders of the United States,a security perimeter.

See Sec. 111 and Sec. 104.

Bush is also urging Congress to pass the Merida Initiative, put together in secret at the Department of State. It will help Mexico secure its border, including its southern border with Belize and Guatemala.

Canada is working on its portion of the virtual fence. When completed and certified, a common security perimeter will exist around North America, allowing for the eventual free flow of citizens and commerce throughout the continent, a corporate state, with governing institutions, two of which are already in place.

See raykania.com and thesigintreport.com, "George Bush's Merida Initiative: Legislation to Merge North America" Feb 14, 2008 archives...

Your assessment is inaccurate.

H.R. 4088 directly addresses the security and sovereignty of the United States, and would efficiently identify persons engaged in illegal employment, identity theft, and unlawful presence in the United States.

H.R. 4088 provides for discrepancies and mismatches in the federal databases, and provides for their correction in section 202.a and 202.b of the bill, in addition to providing for a phase-in over a 4-year span (Sec. 201), under Title-II.

As for humanitarian concerns, there are penalties for breaking a nation's laws, for all persons. Prisons are full of US citizens who decided to break the law, and their families and CHILDREN suffer the consequences of their personal decision to do so....

As time has shown, the opponents of amnesty in 1986 were dead on target and the proponents had successfully used another ploy to gain advantage even though they knew in advance there would be no enforcement. Such political betrayal is why there is such opposition to amnesty again.

As far as limiting the first phase of enforcement to companies with over 250 employees, why not simply place a bar 6’ above ground at the border and prohibit all Mexicans from entering who can’t walk under it while standing upright?

Do any Congressmen have any clue about life in the real world? Specifically, the vast majority of employers are small operations with fewer than 100 employees.

The SAVE Act “Enforces Current Laws”? What?! Where in current immigration law is there a grace period of more than four years? Where is there a limit of over 250 employees?

To repeat, “Such political betrayal is why there is such opposition to amnesty again.”...

This is a misguided bill which will negatively impact all people in the United States, not just undocumented immigrants, but citizens as well. It will put 12.7 million citizens (number provided by the Social Security Administration) at risk of losing their jobs because of the high error rates in the database. It will also put a stamp of approval on detaining CHILDREN in questionable conditions (see Hutto facility in Texas). It will deepen mistrust of law enforcement in immigrant communities, further eroding public safety for all. Finally, it would put religious and humanitarian workers behind bars for so-called "alien smuggling", what some would call being a Good Samaritan....

This bill does nothing to address the root causes of immigration, and undocumented immigration in particular, instead wasting money to keep us "safe". From whom? Last time I checked, none of the terrorists who have attacked the U.S. were Latino. Also, those of you from Cali who are complaining that your state is turning into Mexico: your state WAS Mexico to begin with. Just a little FYI....

All the hype about ".we have to have a comprehensive immigration reform.." is just an excuse to tack on more amnesty for those who CHOSE to come her illegally. We tried this back in 1986, gave them all amnesty & said we would enforce the laws. We didn't & now we have a huge population of illegal immigrants here that are overcrowding our cities, schools & hospitals, using more in govt benefits than they pay in taxes, & instead of embracing American culture & society we are being told to just accept it because it's the pc thing to do. I have no issue with those who wish to come here thru the legal process. It's up to us as citizens to hold our govt accountable to make sure that they enforce the laws. Do your part by going to numbersusa.com to fax all your reps. If you compare our immigration policies to most other functioning countries, you'll find that most have much harsher policies than us & understand that you can't just open up the borders to everyone who wants to come....

Second Under 100 employed that is covering a load of employers quite possible the number one group employing illegals(source needed.) And how are we supposed to pay for this sh*t when our nation is in debt and going though huge economic problems.
