IN REGARDS TO COMMISSARY I CAN SHOP THERE BUT IT COST MORE THAN I CAN BUY FOOD AT AN OUTSIDE GROCERY AND WHEN I DID SHOP THERE THEY IMPOSED A 6/12% SURCHARGE. THE BASE EXCHANGE IS ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AS CIVILIAN STORES, BUT IT IS TAX FREE. GASOLINE IS SOMETIMES MORE ON BASE THAN IT IS OFF BASE. I AM 100% SERVICE CONNECTED. VA CARE IS REALLY FANTASIC. I REALLY THINK THE FOOD AND OTHER STORES ON BASE SHOULD BE LOT CHEAPER .THE GI S DONT GET MUCH OF A BREAK ON BASE HOPE THIS MAKES A LITTLE SENSE....

Basically thats saying even though I am 100 percent I am out of luck because I am not a retiree. So Alaska Vet you are incorrect in assuming I already get these wonderful benefits and PX benefit is not a blessing, their stuff is just as pricey as the malls unless you like cheap beer. As for DoD or active duty using Space A flights. I'd just like to say I tried space A when I was in the military I spent a week on a base because there was no connections, and wasted my leave. How many busy people are actually going to use these flights....

100% DAVs holding a regular retiree ID card can fly Space A. Despite rumors to the contrary, 100 percent disabled veterans in possession of DD Form 1173 or 2765 (replaces the DD Form 1173) identification cards are not entitled to Space-A travel aboard DoD aircraft. Any changes to Space-A eligibility rules will be published as an immediate change to DoD 4515.13r and advertised accordingly (Reiteration HQ AMC/DONP 091704z Mar 99 and Reference PASSENGER SERVICE UPDATE DTG: 261800Z OCT 01 para 1.H). The DD Form 2765, "Department of Defense/Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card," is issued to sponsors, other than members of the military Services, who because of their current or previous association with the military Services, are entitled to Uniformed Services benefits and privileges. These individuals include Medal of Honor recipients and honorably discharged veterans rated by the Veterans Administration as 100 percent disabled from a Service-connected injury....

Alaska Vet...

You are sadly misinformed, 100% DAV
ARE NOT authorized space a travel.

That is what this bill HR 4071 is trying to establish.

100% DAV can fly Coast Guard, but not DOD....

I see alot of vets on here saying they are 100% and that you have been waiting for this bill to pass. If you are 100%, you already have these benefits, and more! Has no one ever told you about benefits for 100% vets? I think someone has been blowing smoke up your backside. 100%ers already have base access, commissary and PX privileges, Space A authorizations, etc... This benefit bill is for those less than 100%....

I am a 100% also, I have been hoping for years this would be passed. I am on a tight budget. My family has no insurance. I would like to see other places but I can't really afford it. So really I am just waiting to die because there are few opportunities for myself and my family. You can only watch so much tv, so much computer. It's not my fault. But I do have dreams. My family is also scattered all over the world because of 3 generations of military men. I will never be able to visit them again but atleast DoD personal and their families get to enjoy it... like they need it....

You would find that your travel priority is much lower now that you are not on active duty. Many of those seats you found available as an AD member are not available now because AD has priority for seats. The reduced number of flights also contributes to the lower number of seats available across the board....

The VA has lowered their disability percentages for injuries once rated much higher. The negative votes you see here come from the vast majority of diabaled Vets that will not qualify simply because of the low percentage awarded them, including myself....

With Screaming Tinnitus from five locations seemingly inches just outside my head, I'm awarded a 10%disability. A purple heart valued to hang on the x-mas tree.
Have you investigated the availability of space-A travel. There is not much available and what there is usually goes to places far out of the mainstream. I suppose if you wanted to travel to someplace like that by C130 turboprop you would be happy with it. Otherwise it's about worthless to anyone....

I don't understand what you are getting at with the medical care problem. A veteran who is not retired from service will not receive medical care if this bill passes. The only thing they would get is exchange/commissary and space-A, none of which are worth a great deal anymore....
