Hard-to-jam radio reaches across physical, demographic and political boundaries. Battery and crank operated radios are everywhere affordable. The BBC reports that its shortwave audience increased by 3 million last year to 183 million with two-thirds listening on shortwave. However the bureaucrats in Washington are silencing the Voice of America, closing 55 of its 130 transmitters with more closures on the way.
