Why is it taking this long to get this important bill HR1333 to pass ? At this slow rate the next president of the United States either McCain or Obama will have to sign this bill into law.
Is Congress forgetting that every day we wait is another day some more criminal aliens or foreign enemies entering our weakly enforced borders ?...

Congress needs to pass this bill right away and President Bush needs to sign it now before he leaves office in 4 months ! Why is it taking so long to protect our borders and US citizens when we have the Civil Air Patrol ready to go and protect the USA yesterday. The government complains about not enough money and resources and yet the Civil Air Patrol is ready but stuck with the slow moving bureaucracy of Washington DC, while illegals and international criminals including terrorists are slipping into the US thru Mexico.Start arming the Civil Air Patrol now as 70% are already ex military and current law enforcement officers....

CAP? Maybe back in 1941, but in 2008 it's a farce to think CAP could protect peanuts from a hungry squirrel, let alone our nation. As an air asset, CAP is fine, provided it's during the weekends when our flying is at peak, and providing aircrews aren't busy playing with the GPS, Radios, or generally blabbering....

Earl Ma:
I really dont think we have to worry about SAM's. Come on. Maybe small arms fire, but I don't know a single CAP member who would not fly anyway. These are some brave volunteers, many former Military/Police. There's no need to arm them. CAP is the eyes. Law Enforcement can take it from there. Did you know CAP already flies counter drug missions all over the US? Never heard of any "Vigilantes" there, either. Take a deep breath....

We're ready to roll. Give us a mission and we'll get it done. Contact your senator and urge them to support this bill. We've got 56,000 trained volunteers and the largest fleet of single engine aircraft in the world. It's costs the government $100 an hour to fly our planes. Compare that to the Helos used by BP and Law Enforcement. Give us the ball!...

I have worked with the CAP both as a police officer and as an Emergency Management Director. They are dedicated, professional, and an incredible asset in both the air AND on the ground. They would be PERFECT to help in the air on the border, and in Comm or as "eyeballs" in a secure environment (Camera watching). This bill makes sense, unlike a lot of "Homeland Security" Ratholes we have right now....

I'm 87, and in WWII I was a Coast Guard Reservist. We patrolled in Corpus Christi and other places near the border and had no problems. The CAP and CGAUX are about all that is left of American's serving just because it is the right thing to do. 'Dust 'em off, give them the mission and stand back, they'll get it done....

The Drug Dealers aren't STUPID, shooting down a CAP Cessna would only get them more grief than they could handle!
The situation in Mexico is very, very, grave. Drawing doen the troops on the border is not a good thing at this time. If the CAP is used as AN AIR ASSET ONLY, then this makes a lot of sense. Arming them makes NO sense. It would be best if they carried BP Officers on each flight....

Its about time to put the brave dedicated volunteers of the United States Civil Air Patrol with the Department of Homeland Security to protect our country immediately and help secure our borders. The US Civil Air Patrol should also be armed again as they were in World War 2.
The Civil Air Patrol is an extremely cost-effective organization and well-suited to support HLS missions. CAP should be viewed as a "force multiplier" that will free up Border Patrol and law enforcement agencies and enhance their ability to detect and thwart the bad guys.
I think utilizing the resources of the Civil Air Patrol is a great idea until this nation has enough border patrol agents in place and construction of the 700 mile wall gets underway. I have been to AZ border several times in the last 2 years and the situation is grave there. The air and ground training missions that CAP continually execute has proven that the USAF Auxiliary are a proven force that will benefit true homeland security. CAP is ready to answer the call....
